I know the event is slightly overshadowed by Wimbledon and the Football, but is anyone going.

I haven’t been to the WSBK at Donington since 2015, first going in 1990, but really think I am overdue a visit.

I meant 2015. The Foggy years were great (especially Brands Hatch).

Nothing will match the 1988 meeting.

I saw two events at Donington that i rank as being equally as good as each other. The first was the year Foggy started racing a Ducati and i remember watching Scott Russell charging up to Redgate and thinking he was visibly faster than the best of the British championship at the time.
The second was the Roger Marshall Testimonial meeting, might have been '88, and that was epic fun to watch.

Those were the days

judging by the live timing - first race isn't live unless you want to pay Discovery plus or WSBK to watch live - we also have an answer to the pres eason question of which of the Lowes twins was going to do better this season.
Good race for Rea so far too

They were the days. Niall Mackenzie won the race with Roger Burnett second. In the 500cc European championship race Darren Dixon won on a Padgetts Suzuki.

I remember going to Donington that year as a 15 year old for the Grand Prix. It was a roasting hot day and great to see all the big names. The legendary Wayne Rainey won his first GP.

That was 1987 iirc as it was so hot they set up stand pipes for people to get water from. Barry Sheene rode Schwantz's RGV500 in a bomber jacket, jeans and loafers, with a one off Arai crash helmet that was white. We were stood just by Goddards on the infield on the main straight.

Barry Sheene did indeed ride Kevin’s RGV500 in a Pepsi Suzuki Paddock Jacket and was criticised for not wearing the appropriate clothing, especially in consideration of his previous accidents and injuries. The year was 1988 and I stood at the Old Hairpin.

It was also the year that 'Captain' Mark Phillips lost his brakes on the Loctite Yamaha going full chat into the Melbourne loop and almost ended up in the outside car park.

He was seriously injured but thankfully recovered to race again.

I spoke to him at the Brackley Festival of Speed in 2013 and he said he remembered very little about the accident, probably just as well.

I never got to see this one on BBC as I was busy trying not to die. Gardner did fastest lap of 1.39.5, yesterday Toprak did a 1.24.6. That's 37 years of progress for you.

Meh.

I did 1.46 something in '84 on a TZ350.

That was on the club circuit though.

Then I fell off. biggrin

Bautista apparently suggesting that bad weekends like this weekend are not helping his future and he isn't enjoying riding the bike.

Does this have anything to do with the fact he isn't dominating every single race by multiple seconds anymore? scratchchin

It's a big old change, not even being top Ducati.

I feel a bit robbed. Watching Toprak make up for a clearly second best bike has been one of the best spectacles in motorsport.

I was there on Sunday and it was a top day.
They've done a lot to improve the fan experience in and around the paddock.
Still got work to do with improving the standard and availability of the vendors and merch though.

And £6.90 for a pint of stty lager (piss) is outrageous.
