Every time i have dismantled a shock it has been c spanner type preload rings that you loosen off all the way to remove the spring, but this has a remote preload adjuster and no visible threads, I dont want to just plow on and damage something. Does anyone have any experience of dismantling these?

Have you searched YouTube? There are videos, but I have no idea whether they're relevant.

Not seen any dealing with the same preload adjuster as mine

Ideally, you need a proper spring jack tool but you could use some external spring compressors - compressing the spring will give you access to the spring platform at the bottom of the spring.

I'd find a local suspension specialist who has a spring jack tool (something like this) - https://www.brooksuspension.co.uk/fork-seal-driver...

I cringe when I see the old school spring compressors used!
