I was looking at a GS 1300 but unfortunately it’s too wide to go through my gate by about 75mm..

I’ve found Wunderlich narrower bars at 798 mm but I don’t know how that compares to standard as they all give the width including bar ends and guards etc.

Has anyone got a set of bare standard bars kicking about that they can measure across to give the width? A 1250 would do.

P.S I can’t make the gate any wider.

Can you make the gate lower so the handlebars go over the top of the gateposts?

Or even through a slot in the gateposts?

Unfortunately stone pillars which I’m not even sure of ownership.

I’ve had all the suggestions from cutting slots to moving house elsewhere except the one I really need which is the tip to tip dimension of standard GS bars.

Can you not just test ride one from a dealer near to you, ride home and see if you can fit it through? You might find that you can paddle it through the gap. Won't know unless you try!

Done that.

The salesman lives nearby so he brought one home. It looks about 75mm at least too wide.
Even taking the guards off wouldn’t do it. And because they are thick stone pillars there isn’t the wriggle room.

I just went out and measured my GS1300. In fact the hand protectors are wider than the bars. The bars are 920mm across (inc the end cap bolts) but at their widest the hand guards are 1020mm - they obviously come back in on themselves to meet the bars. The problem there is that on the 1300 the indicators are in the hand guards so you can't really remove them unless you find somewhere else to mount some indicators.

My 1250R fits through easily. The salesman is getting on to his contract at the factory to see if they can fit R bars on to the GS but I’m not hopeful.

Even if it was possible the width would still be increased by putting the hand protectors on the R bars so it’s going to be close.

I’ve got a feeling it’s going to be a no go. Which is a pity as I loved the test ride I had.
