Hi

Too much choice...help me out with suggestions/ advice!

Next Wednesday evening I will be in, or near, Baden Baden- I plan to book a small hotel for the night, after a ride down from Rotterdam that morning.

Baden Baden leads me to the B500. As long as I am in Milan by Friday mid afternoon, I can go wherever you recommend as I travel across the Alps, spending a night somewhere along the way. Again probably a cheap(ish) hotel. No off road!

Leaving Milan on Sunday mid afternoon, I plan to head towards Mont Blanc before making it to Rotterdam for the Tuesday evening Ferry back to Hull. Back at work in the North East, by Wednesday lunchtime!

I understand the first and last days will probably be long/ autobahn days, but time away is limited. My daughter is at a dance comp in Milan, travelling with Mrs Gingerbiker and her other teammates, so I have the excuse for a mini solo adventure but do have to be there (Milan) Friday till Sunday. A shame I have to be back at work on Wednesday, as the Tour de France is nearby... if only I had another day in Spain.

So out of all the many routes I can take, what would you recommend?

Watching this with interest - doing a similar trip profile which sees us riding Rotterdam to Geneva with an overnight stop.

An interesting route would be nice.

Travel the B500, and overnight outside of Switzerland. Switzerland is both, expensive to stay and atrocious in speeding fines.
Cross CH in the morning on motorways (mind the Vignette), and have lunch in country tavern in Italy.

My suggestion would require a couple of focused days and some motorway to join up the good bits but it includes:
B500
Hochannberpass
Hahntennjoch
Timmelsjoch
Stelvio Pass
Passo di Gavia

Most importantly, it avoids Switzerland!

Overnight somewhere around Merano

Thanks
I’ll check out those suggestions against my rough plan tomorrow.
I think part of my challenge around planning is establishing just how long each section will take, specifically estimating average speed.

Go on the roads to the side of the B500 as it’s quite heavily policed and the best bit is quite short and near Baden Baden after that get the paper map out and plot

So after a flyer from work had a great ride down to Hull for the overnight ferry to Rotterdam. Hope the weather is as good on the continent as it is here!

Weather is good; 29°C peak and sunshine today; should last until Sunday (in southern Germany). Ride safe!
