If you were geographically mobile, and had the funds/inclination, where in the UK is the best place to live (that still has a population, jobs etc) if you really want to enjoy motorcycling? (excl IOM)

OR (2nd question)

If you really had the freedom, where in the world?

Two that spring to mind are IoM first and foremost, second would be somewhere near North Wales.

Northumberland. Kielder. Somewhere round there.

Scottish highlands not far away (could ride there early morning and have time to explore before riding home).

Great countryside to the north, south and west. Seaside not far to the east.

I plan on moving up there once kids have f**ked off.

And also planning to spend jan-apr on a spanish island somewhere to escape the awful wet/grey/boring winters we keep having.

Purely location in the UK; Bradford. Surrounded by Peak District, Yorkshire Dales/Moors, Lake District, and The Borders. To add a quality of life element Harrogate or York.

In the world, similar to Bradford; Florence. Italy, Sardinia, Corsica easy(ish), lots of other bits of Europe comparatively not far away.

As someone living in the Midlands, I've always thought living further North would be the way to go for "better roads" for both driving and riding. Somewhere North of Leeds that's still decently populated for work etc. but also giving easy access to the Dales, the Lake District, the Pennines, Northumberland and being that much closer to the Scottish border for longer days/weekends.

For no real standout reason, I feel like that trumps Wales (the other obvious option) for me. Being somewhere scenic and coastal feels like it could be a bonus though.

As for the rest of the world, I think the possibilities truly are endless with every country having something different to offer. High on my list would be somewhere with a decent dry:wet days ratio!

Not Fenland, unless you have an unholy amount of suspension travel.

Also, Fenland is a dump and I hate it.

The main problem is that the best places to ride have very low populations, hence there isn't much in the way of jobs

Whilst Wales / Yorkshire are fantastic places to ride the weather isn't the best

The Peaks is absolutely rammed on any day with decent weather

In Europe the obvious place would be Spain, good weather & great roads lots of choices near mountains

I've decided the best option is to build a race van, so any decent weather I can head off from Warwickshire to a multitude of locations and have a weekend riding in relative comfort

The Fens up here in Lincolnshire aren't any better, during the winter the phrase 'soul destroyingly bleak' don't even start to cover how grim they are. I'm on the edge of the Wolds and there are some good roads if you're prepared to explore.

I was also thinking of 'close enough' to the Scottish Highlands, like somewhere touristy like Fort William, or Oban etc. Assuming the weather isn't sh!te all the time.

I can say it's the best in the country, but I relocated to South Wales (Brecon Beacons) about 4 years ago from Surrey.

There are certainly plenty of great road and scenery here, along with plenty of bike cafes etc...

(Just stay away from the 20s!)

Not all the time... there are a couple of days when it's not raining / snowing and before the midges come out - it's fantastic then

It's just the other 363....

I love on the fringe of Teesside. Despite the bad press, for riding country I've got the North York Moors, Yorkshire Dales and North Pennines on my doorstep. Lakes and Northumberland are an hour away.

From a motorcycling point of view, central Scotland has a lot going for it, with easy access to the Highlands, Cairngorms, Borders, Lake District, North Pennines and Yorkshire Dales. If you like an early start in the morning, 30 mins in any direction can get you somewhere nice, a couple of hours can get you somewhere stunning, and 6/7 hours riding can be spent mostly on relatively quiet fantastic riding roads. The downside is so much of the place is steholes populated by aggressive aholes, but there are still plenty of places where there's a lot of decent folk.

I'm not sure where I'd live, I haven't travelled much out of Europe, but there's something about Wallonia I really like.
