Good first day's racing
BSB Race 1 - winner checked out and then controlled the race, good to see him on the top step.
SSP Race - 1 good first race, battle almost to the end.

Some interesting things happening during the first BSB race, two riders going down after what looked like an optomistic overtake attempt. Another rider black flagged after oil smoke issues.

Will try and catch it at some point. Is it on Eurosport?

Watched some WSBK yesterday.. haven't watched either superbike championships for years but actually quite good to watch. They seem to make the bikes work by sliding them a lot more than MotoGP which is my main bike racing fix.

Who's the man these days in BSB?

Toprak seems insanely talented in WSBK. If I could see anyone making the switch from superbikes to MotoGP it would be him.

Glenn Irwin will be starting from the back of the grid after getting penalty points for missing/ignoring the black and orange meatball flag. An angry Irwin cutting through the pack could make an exciting race.

Yeah they show the main races on Eurosport or every race is shown on Dicovery+. Annoyingly they have no feed between races so if there’s a delay it can be hard to work out what’s going on hehe

As for who’s the man it’s a mixed bag. Bridewell seems to be pretty happy on the Honda now, Irwin’s been doing well on the Paul Bird Ducati but really it’s been quite a mix. The Yamahas (Ryde and Vickers) look reasonably strong at times as do the Kawasakis and Rory Skinner on the BMW will take some beating if he gets a good start.

Having just seen the weather for the sidecar race I hope it dries in time, there were rivers running along the track in that race which the three wheelers could just about cope with but wouldn’t be so easy on two wheels!

Great ride by Rory. Feel sorry for Danny Kent, crazy really I thought Danny Kent was our next big GP hopeful a few years ago. Seemed the real deal. Same with scott redding in WSBK now mid pack.

I still think Danny Kent is a dark horse for the title this year.

He's consistently fast, even on a "scratcher's" track like Knockhill which - I'll be honest - did not think would suit him at all. Before the last race was red-flagged he was catching Bridewell and Iddon.

Whatever, it's going to be a bloody close call this year between maybe four riders.

It looked that way until he went a bit off the rails.

However he seems to of got his st together and reset, fair play to him last year creating his own team.

Pleased for TB as i am a fan of his but equally for Iddon and Skinner. Also, it's nice to see that one person is not just buggering off with the championship and as someone else said, could be quite a few in the reckoning come the end of the season.

TB is really charging though and good to see him get Honda's first win for several years and the same for Kennedy on the new CBR600RR

Awesome fella well done, it must've been brutal. Ashamed to say we were leaving as you guys were racing on Saturday. Combination of rain and the littlun's batteries getting low.

Having gone back and watched the first race yesterday evening, gotta wonder what was going through Glenn Irwin's mind. Clearly black flagged yet carried on regardless for a couple of laps before pulling in.
Maybe a harsh penalty for not responding immediately? First sign of cracks appearing?
I have to admit i had him down as champion this year and i still think he will be but this was a weekend to forget for him and the PBM team

They have to be harsh if a rider ignores a black or black and orange flag.

It’s not for him to decide the bike feels ok so just carry on, if it’s dropping fluids it’s dangerous for others and can ruin multiple championships. The bike was clearly losing something, and the belly catch tank did a cracking job containing it as well as it did!

Valid point but does make you wonder if they have issues with their engine. Isn't Frank Wrathall doing their engines now?

On the subject of engines, Yamaha's seems to be blowing up for fun in WSBK, have they been struggling for reliability in BSB too?

It wouldn't have been anywhere as bad if there was at least phone signal. Not sure what happened to it this year but they need to sort it. I've been there plenty of times when the weathers like that, or believe it, worse. But when there's fk all to do for two hours in the pissing rain it'd be nice to be able to watch the Euros to pass the time. It was a struggle to even load the MET office app to see how much more rain was coming, mind you the clouds were pretty indicative.

Yeah, reception was crappy. Wonder if lightning elsewhere caused issues.

Still had a great time just being there with the Mrs and kids. Highlight for mewas arriving about 11.45 while practice was going on, getting near trackside. Bikes screaming past, so I turned to my daughter and asked if it was a bit loud (8 years old at her first race, so thought I'd have to get her defenders). Huge grin on her face as she says Nope!

Skinner made the other BM riders look a bit silly at this round.

To be fair, Hickman is struggling right now on the short circuits and Brookes is hot and cold so Skinner is going to do well this year.
Surprised by Haslam's lack of form though, he was best of the BM's last year but this year is struggling a bit.
