Husky Svartpillen 801
Discussion
I just read an article on this. Looks quite nice, but £10,499. If they make a 990 version for £12k I'd be tempted.
Apparently the price over the equivalent KTM is £3,500, due to being assembled in Austria rather than China. I would have thought that the Chinese factory would be subject to the same quality control as anywhere else. .....

Were the 401 and 701 made in Austria or China? Off topic a bit but been meaning to ask Apparently the price over the equivalent KTM is £3,500, due to being assembled in Austria rather than China. 701 was in Austria and some early 401's I believe. I don't understand the economics of making them there if it costs them £2500. I know people on here place some importance on where they're made but is it worth £2.5k? I'd rather take the savings
The 2.5k would scale depending on the original cost of the bike though. 2.5k on a 401 would be huge.I think its just QC I think but stand to be corrected. Generally more issues on the Chinese assembled KTMs than the Austrian KTMs, but the Chinese ones are generally the smaller capacity models which could be more to do with it.
Every day is a school day (for me!)
It's got more bits than the Duke 790 hasn't it.
So it's not just the labour, the bike has more bits. They still want £350 for the software with all of the variable rear end slidiness stuff.
I got the impression from the Neeves MCN or Fagan 44 Teeth review that the throttle was smooth and not EuroX snatchy and jolty at low speeds.
Those silvery bits on the end of the radiator grate on me. Was it the naked version of the Superblackbird XX that had similar bits sticking out at ends of the radiator? Those bits on the end of the radiator looks contrived and rubbish to me. If the 401 and 701 versions of the KTMs were about stripped down minimalism what are those styling 'scoops' on the end of the radiator doing on the 801? Contrived styling for it's own sake makes this seem like a pose 'hipster' scene motorcycle and as I don't want to portray a fashion or lifestyle with a motorcycle it puts me off.
From the Bennetts Social website I understand for June Santander/KTM finance are doing 1.9% APR which may be of interest to those that PCP but it's a KTM and will it get discounted. If you're a PCPer paying the monthlies does it matter if they get discounted?
I liked the dragonfly on acid agility of the original Duke 790. The wheelbase and rake and therefore dynamics of this Svartpilen 801 may suit me if I want to calm down and be more sensible on the roads.
Will they do a Vitpilen 801 that borrows bits from the Duke 890R and uses proper road tyres rather than scrambler scene blocky treads?
There's no point putting 890R suspension on the 801 as the wheelbase is longer and the rake means slower streering? 890R suspension on this, or a Vitpilen 801 would just mean features without benefits due to the different frame and longer wheelbase?
