R1300GS

Does anyone have an R1300GS? What do you think of it so far?

I’ve just ordered one, hopefully to arrive late next month.

It’s turned into a quite expensive week as I also bought a new family car, but I’d been considering the bike for while and a brief sunny period of weather made my mind up.

I’ll not be putting any accessories on it other than a top box; it comes with everything that’s needed.

I played with the configurator and managed to add five or six grand to the base price

Didn't I read somewhere that goes TFT screen just pops off?

The only negative thing I have read is something to do with relays melting under the seat but assume a new one will now be sorted.

I really like the new 1300, I wouldn’t buy a 1250 on looks alone but the 1300 is a big improvement if you find the 1250 too chunky.

It’s easy to configure a 23/24k bike though.

Total price is £24,000. I was tempted to go for an absolutely basic bike, but in the end went the other ways.

It’ll be my third GS, although the first in the years, and the first I’ll have bought without trying.

I think that to experience the best out of what the new GS can offer you do need that level of spec IMO.

I’m getting in in “trophy” spec. I always regretted not buying the Rallye version of my 1200, for the nice colour scheme.

Yes, great colours. I like the spec of the tramantine and like the colour but the option 719 stuff wouldn’t mean much to me

Nothing to prove hasn’t had a great time with his new one that he bought with his own money.

There are a variety of issues with them, including TFT theft, starter relays melting, wheels cracking (cast not suitable for off-road despite BMW saying they are), the well dodgy rear lights, failure of shaft drive, ECU problems that need a software update and rear gearbox oil seal failure. A lot of people moaning about the noise but I think that's something we're all going to have to get used to.

But it's version 1 of the 1300GS so there are bound to be issues. If I wanted one I'd wait a year and hope they'd fixed these things.

Personally, I don't like the front of it but KTM are going down a similar route so I might have to get used to it !

Well that’s going to be an oddity for me and Mrs DS - as well as the “Yellow Car Game” we also play “GS Bingo” where we look for the most ridiculous looking GSer with every sort of bolt on tat and lights going on their 400kg 8 foot wide wurlitzers on wheels.

We we driving off the Rotterdam ferry this morning and it was a total GS “bingo!”-fest.

However nothing has yet beaten the glittering example I saw with spare tyres strapped on and the absolute piece de resistance: a fire extinguisher bolted to his crash bars

I have a GS Adventure.

I like to load mine up and go camping.

Next week I'm planning on strapping my current part-worn road tyres to the back of it to take them back home when I swap them in for a set of 50:50 tyres.

I'll give you a shout Dog Star so you and your Mrs can have a lovely high-scoring moment to yourselves.

Only if you're not busy playing the yellow car game, obviously. That just sounds like too much fun.

I have a friend that got his late last year, he has had problems with the starter relay which has been back to the dealers twice. Both instances for the relay.

Apart from that he's very happy with it, I think this is his 4th consecutive GS.
