Triumph Thruxton TFC or FE???
Discussion
I absolutely love those Thruxton's and I'm smitten by two of them and struggling to work out which to go for, will be used as a bike for those sunny days out in the UK (haha, whenever they are)...
Thruxton TFC or Thruxton FE?
It's worth adding if I had a TFC I'd be putting the standard clip-on's onto the bike, read loads of thread where people have done this and it does not affect the front fairing but gives a less aggressive riding position.

That’s the problem, I’ve only ever been able to sit on one (RS version) can’t test ride a FE (can only order one) and there’s no test rides available of the one or two TFC’s I’ve seen available.
Actually had one garage say to me it’s too much off a faff to allow test rides, they have to take out insurance, get the bike ready for the test and also don’t want to put miles on them…

Tricky one. On the one hand the FE would be a brand new bike and there’s something about being the only owner, and the Competition green is a beautiful colour!
On the other hand the TFC is probably more special and will probably hold its value better in the future. I’ve not seen a Thruxton TFC but did have a good look over a Bobber TFC a while ago and it was stunning, really stunning 😍
On balance, I’d buy a TFC but only if it was genuinely immaculate.

I have seen a nice TFC but it doesn't have the backpack as the owner wants to keep it? I was hoping for a full TFC package on the off chance I'd sell it in the future, it would be easier to have the full set, or am I just overthinking it?On the other hand the TFC is probably more special and will probably hold its value better in the future. The TFC back pack is unique to the TFC bikes, leather and TFC logo, but probably the least important of the extra items.
The build certificate and build book are most important, then the TFC cover. But it’s nice to have everything.
I’ve already given my view on the other thread on the various versions. There isn’t a bad one.
The TFC is now a 5 year old bike but is holding its value well. The FE is a run out edition of a model whose sales have fallen off as most people buy Speed Twin 1200 now.
But the FE gives you the comfort of new bike/dealer etc.
I’ve been able to get a few miles on the TFC the last few weeks and although it small increments over previous versions it all adds up, power, freer reving, The biggest difference is the Ohlins front shocks over the Showa big piston, they are impressive.
The only negative I have found is the leather saddle is very shiny and you slide around on it a lot more than the suede version. I may do a swap as I have a spare.

Maybe depends why you’re buying and what you want - some sorry if I missed anything, but isn’t the RS a kind of productionised TFC - so with higher spec suspension etc?
TBH they also seem to be holding value (and are cheap to insure!).
To me they look like value vs a TFC but if you have to have the limited edition bike, fair enough.
I recall lamb chop rides review of the Thruxton RS in YouTube - he seemed to really like it.

TFC is really something special above and beyond its low production numbers. As opposed to the other Triumph Thruxton limited edition bikes where the difference is essentially a paint job.
For example, it has the one piece carbon fairing that is painted with the two tone exposed carbon paint job and the hand applied stripe. As opposed to the 3 piece non carbon fairing. Also lots of mechanical and parts that can only be had on the TFC.

Both are GORGEOUS.
The TFC is slightly more powerful and covered in carbon fibre. I own number 673.
The FE is a stock RS engine. The TFC is slightly modified. But so little in it.
Personally I think you would be insane to modify a TFC from stock. If you intend to keep it as forever type/investment, stock is king. People still do it… but maybe more forgiving of a modified FE?
The FE with the additional FE fairing is simply stunning. The colour is gorgeous. Has the same suspension as the TFC.
The only “mod” I have done, and it’s easily and quickly replaceable, is replacing the stem nut with a Triumph version Beeline Moto.
Either way I wish you luck and if you do get either one - get yourself suited up for the DGR and ride dapper. 🤘

They’re great aren’t they. Love my TFC number 451 after owning an R. Minor correction, same rear suspension but the TFC forks have Ohlins NIX30 internals, the FE has the standard Showa. All the little extras on the TFC really make a difference, not just the engine and the stunning carbon. The TFC is slightly more powerful and covered in carbon fibre. I own number 673.
