Good stops in Yorkshire
Discussion
I'm riding from Scotland to Sheffield for the snooker soon, and looking for advice for places to stop. I'll be needing petrol sometime around a line drawn between Leeds and York, so I'll need a cup of tea too.
Where's good to stop in that rough area? I'm planning in coming down the Leyburn - Ripon - Harrogate sort of way (not the A1), and I did the obvious option of Squires last year.
Thanks much in advance!

Ah yes, just seen the review that it's now under new management and only open at the weekend.
In Leyburn there's the cafe in Tennants Auctioneers, which is open through the week. There are plenty of pubs in Middleham to choose from, plus Cover Bridge Inn out of Middleham.
The tearoom at Jeaveaux Abbey is reopening (yay!) in May, if that fits in with your plans, but if not there's Brymor Ice Cream about a mile further down the road. It does other stuff than just ice cream.

Strawberry fields is a nice relaxed One. Lots of nice roads that way.

Where in Scotland are you coming from? And how long do you want to take getting there?
I’d advise coming off the A1 at Musselburgh and follow the A68 to Bellingham then on to Alston and then Barnard castle. I’m sure others on here could give you routes from Barnard castle onwards.
Google maps route planer..
Edinburgh - Kielder - Alston - Barnard Castle.
Both Kielder and Alston have some good spots to stop for a brew and cake too.

I think the OP is Weegie side like myself. I usually just blat down the M74 to Gretna then Longtown>Brampton>Alston to Barnie. If you're southside OP, EK>Strathaven>Kirkmuirhill is a nicer way to get onto the M74 adding very little time.
From Barnard Castle you could go over The Stang to Tan Hill then take Buttertubs Pass to Hawes then Leyburn.

If you know Squires and you're planning to be in that area. Try 'The Motorist' at Sherburn aerodrome
If it's dry that looks a good option.I'm not wedded to which side of Leeds I go so something Bradford side also works.

If you come down the 'Bratfud' side, Bolton Abbey Tea Rooms is very pleasant. This sets you up for A59 towards Harrogate, Leeds Wetherby etc
The A59 is shut for the next couple of months, it's a lovely detour through Grassington but it does add a bit of time...Triaguar said:
Closed at Blubberhouses? If so Addingham and A65 from Bolton Abbey?
Yes I meant if you wanted to head to Harrogate. On a side note, I really must try some of those places mentioned. They're all a very short ride away so I'm never ready for a coffee by the time I get there!

another vote for the Motorist, Squires may be THE bike place for most but it caters down to its clientele. The motorist is a different world.

This looks good, though saw an online review saying it had a 1 star food hygiene rating! https://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaurant_Review-g186...
I'm just to the NW of Glasgow, so route plan is currently M74 to Stonehouse, B7076 or 78 to Longtown. Then via Brampton to stop at Nooks Farm just outside Alston for lunch.
Thereafter across to Barnard Castle, Leyburn and Ripon, and then both the FireBlade and I will need fed.
I'd planned to come back up via Bradford, Skipton and either Hawes or Kendal
