Hi Guys,

I have resurrected an old CG125. Motor is 1982, it's a 6 volt kick start model.
It was running until I left it outside overnight in the rain, and since then it has left the building.

I am now checking everything from the generator up.

As far as I have been able to read, it should be possible to measure the resistance from the generator wires to ground. I read on another post that I should expect 0.3 to 1.1 ohms.
I get readings in this range on the White, Pink and Yellow wires that feed the headlight.
On the black wire that should be feeding the ignition circuit I am measuring 2.4 ohms (with the breaker open).

Since I am also only observing 2-3 volts when measuring the wire going to the coil, this seems like it might be the problem.

Unfortunately I did not do any of these readings whilst the bike was running, so I don't know if anything changed. As part of the ressurection, I replaced the points, the coil, the condenser, the HT lead and the spark plug.

Does anyone know if the testing I've outlined above is correct?

tnx

Defo getting fuel into the carb? No water getting into the tank?

is the spark plug wet? try turning over without the plug in to let any fuel from failed attempts to start leave the head.

Otherwise my 1977 one seems to go through coils so would suggest replacing for another

It's all very well checking resistances, but have you actually determined whether or not you have a spark at the plug?
No spark, no go!

Start as has been said making sure there's a spark, plug out cap back on and rest it on the engine, then watch it as you kick it over
If you have a spark then try easy start, this will on last a few seconds but will show the potential for running.
If it starts then it's quite possible it's fuel and water related

The choke flap used to break off on these for a past time.

Worth whipping the carb off & seeing if it's still there.

If you have a spark (instructions above for checking that) then it might be lack of fuel. Does the exhaust stink of unburned petrol? It should, if you're turning it over trying to start it, but it's not being burned.

Not something dumb like the fuel tap turned off? Or even the killswitch? The RAC will have taken a lot of calls over the years for simple things like that...
