I've recently bought a Moto Guzzi V7 with the above top box and just noticed it doesn't seem to lock to the platform on the bike.It clicks in fine and is held nice and firm whilst riding. The lock on the box ratchets down ok and keeps the box lid locked but there seems to be no "connection" to the release button that allows the box to be removed from the bike. rendering it a bit useless apart from transporting stuff! I contacted the guy who I bought it from and he says it's always locked before and should limit the button to only a partial "press" but this isn't the case, there seems to be nothing interfering with a full press of the button whether it's locked or not.

Has anyone experienced similar and been able to sort? Thanks

I have - your first solution is to drown the metal sliding plate and general mechanism in WD40 or similar until it moves freely. This will give you a temporary fix.

Ultimately you'll have to change the lock on it as the moving parts are worn. This is fiddly but well within the competencies of a home mechanic. Make sure you have a magnet on a stick for the rotating ball inside it as that always flies off. Givi do sell new locks.

Thanks that's really helpful. I will have a look for a youtube video or something to show the process of changing locks. One thing I just can't get though is the distance between the lock and the release button? What is it that activates the restriction on pressing the button? If I didn't know better I would say the lock for the lid has nothing to do with keeping the box attached to the platform.
