There is also the CB650R which was my first bike and I still own it. Looks like you can get new ones for just under 7k probably because the new model with the e-clutch is coming soon. More power but less torque but a lovely noise in my opinion. I haven't had a go on the 750 yet however.

2 yrs ago, I had a hankering to buy a big honda. For some reason I decided on a 550, but after a cpla months of ownership I knew I made the wrong choice. So here we are , 1 yr later, a new summer on the horizon, all but a wet one and I have spotted a nice tasty cb750 for £8000...........dare i???
I assume that you're asking about the original SOHC CB750?gareth_r said:

Who knows, there are loads of different cb750 variants, crystal ball reqd .
The CB550 was a '70s model, so I assumed that the OP would be looking at the contemporary 750.I'm quite happy to be that guy.
The OP is totally pointless as it doesn't give enough information about the bikes. Why even bother posting a question if you don't give enough info for anyone to be able to provide any relevant advice.
Or if you really want my input based on what you said, please pick one from :
"Yes, great idea, go for it"
or:
"No, terrible idea, you are a st rider and can't cope with a 750"

I made that assumption too, but having checked the thread again I've just realised the OP could've been referring to:https://moto.zombdrive.com/images1600_/honda-cb750...
I'm loving the crash bars and horn symmetry.

You are therefore just not the target audience for the question As the owner of a CB750, I probably am, and of course the answer will always be, get the 750 !romft123 said:

The CB550 was a '70s model, so I assumed that the OP would be looking at the contemporary 750.And the questions is do you "dare"?
You decided after 2 months you wanted the 750 and have been pondering or looking for one for a further 2 years.
So:
Yes, life is short get it bought - I dare you....
or
No, after two years dithering you are asking us? Sounds like you don't dare....

I am unclear as to the reason for this thread.
If you are simply letting us know that you bought a 550, didn't like it and are now thinking about a 750, then that's fine, but the "dare I?" at the end of your first post suggests otherwise. If it is just banter, and not a question it would still be nice to know why the 550 didn't work for you and why you think the 750 might but that's up to you whether you tell us that.
If you are asking those who read the thread if they think you should go for the 750 then we'll definitely need to know more before we can offer anything other than a "flip a coin" guess.
You can either call my post pedantic, ignore it, or give some more detail. If you do either of the first two options I really don't understand what you wan't/are expecting beyond a bit of trolling.
