any ideas at to what causes this?

i'm guessing heat cycling / fatigue? just noticed as i started prepping for annual MOT equivalent. slightly annoying as i hadn't planned for new tyres. part of me thinks a reckless day's riding could clean it up, but the other part thinks that's a very stupid idea. front is starting to show the same issue in a very narrow band.

any recommendations for a replacement purely dry weather tyre? these are metzler sportec m7 rr. no complaints other than i don't find them very confidence inspiring, difficult to feel the grip available especially at the front.

What pressure are you running?

Looks like it could be mad overinflated.

M7rr are some of the most feelsome tyres you can get so something is wrong.

Is it on the correct way, being directional?

Otherwise, I see they claim it has a high silica compound, whatever that does....

Like trick says, could be down to the pressures?

How old are the tyres? I’m guessing they are a fair age as they are starting to crack too

Might be worth considering a new pair regardless.

Tyres are pretty subjective but you can’t go wrong with anything from. Michelin, Dunlop, Pirelli, Bridgestone, Metzler.

FWIW, I’m a fan of Michelin Power GP and Dunlop Sportsmart TT. The Pirelli Rosso Corsa 2 I think?? That’s on my Mrs Tuono is a canny try n’all.

yes fitted correctly. pressures 31F/36R which is book for the bike [Duc M1100 Evo]. i always check if its been more than a few days since last ride.

i am reading its dual compound on the rear if that has anything to do with it? front is 100% silica, on the rear its just the sides.

feel may be due to the rider having no other frame of reference and/or being a fanny. there is plenty grip, just little feel on the front.

They are multi compound harder in the middle, softer on the edges. I would expect that wear on the shoulders but not the middle.

The silica helps with performance in the wet.

I ran those on a gsxr 750. Really liked them and didn’t have any unusual wear. They were a lot nicer than the Rosso 2 I had before.

Manufacture date is 2020, been on the bike less than that. 3 years maybe.

I’ll see what’s available locally. Reading good things about the Michelin but don’t think I’ve ever seen a Michelin bike tyre here.

Have you ridden in very hot weather, on very hot tarmac, in a very long straight line?

I know you're in the middle east somewhere. 36psi cold might not be low enough in a really hot environment? (I'm guessing here).

Doesn't even look wide enough or straight enought to be where the dual compounds meet.

From what you have said and the replies above all I can suggest is have a look inside the swing arm snd see if its been rubbing in that area. (witness marks).

If you're in the Middle East, check your pressures after a bit of riding. You may find the cold pressures are elevating significantly once you get outside. The wear looks like an overpressure related issue.
