As above.
I can't unlock the seat. The key refuses to turn. The same Key turns with no problem in the ignition barrell. So it's probably not the key?
Is there another way I can release the seat?
The bike is a Yamaha 1000R Thunderace.

I'm assuming you've used a penetrating type oil not wd40?
Can you get the mudguard bit under the seat off or at least loosen it and try and get in that way?

Have you tried putting pressure down on the seat while you try to turn the key?
This takes the tension off the mechanism slightly so it might turn.

If this doesn't help, a bit of fiddling behind panels and under the seat with a bent coathanger might allow you to snag the bowden cable from the lock to the mechanism; if you pull it sharply you might get enough purchase to click the lock.

Yes, get someone to sit on it whilst you unlock it.

WD40 the lock

Wiggle the key and seat at the same time

If that doesn't work have a google to see if there's a known easy option to manipulate the cable by hand

If you just need the bike to start you can put a jump pack / leads to the frame / engine and the starter (if it's accessible)

Did it used to work with that key? Just wondering if it's been stolen and recovered at some point, and someone has changed a damaged ignition barrel but not the underseat lock. If you have another key, try it.

Mine has always been a bit stiff. I suspect it's lack of use. I shall give it a spray over the weekend just in case.
