My dad in his 70s insured with MCE who went bankrupt. (against my advice).

His renewal and documents 12 months ago were in MCE's web portal (not downloaded against my advice).

His 2024 renewal is up and he needs proof of NCB to go elsewhere, but of course all previous renewal details and his existing policy details are with MCE who's site and web portal are now dead...

He doesn't know who underwrote his policy.

Any ideas how to prove his 20+ years NCB with a new insurer?

Thanks!!

Go back through emails etc and find proof of the previous years and chalk the last lost year up to experience?

I thought there was an electronic database insurers check now ? never been asked in recent years to provide proof when changing car insurers or bikes

I think it was Sabre who underwrote them.

As someone else said use the one before with is hopefully still in the period where it’s valid. Once you get to 9 yrs it doesn’t make any difference.

I haven’t been asked for proof this year when I changed insurers but they asked last year I think. May be worth calling them and highlighting the mce problem and see if they can do it electronically.

I'm pretty sure there is a digital database. I've not long changed to a new provider and they didn't ask for proof of no claims etc like they used to.

There may be an electronic database but you shouldn't assume they use it until you make a claim. At that time they'll discover some undisclosed info that they should have known about but as you didn't mention, it their omission was your fault.

I've had this recently where my renewal on a like for like basis was mysteriously missing some info from last year. When I pointed out their mistake....the renewal price went up.

They are crooks and you should assume that whatever you pay for insurance, you have no cover until you have a successful claim.

We have a winner above - thanks.

Sabre underwrite the policies/took over when MCE went under. Called them and they provided evidence of 16 years NCB via e-mail straight away - very helpful.

For the others - I don't trust an insurance co in a claim to not demand that you provide proof! He'd auto renewed with them for a few years so had nothing older to evidence and even if he did the NCB is only valid for 2 years.

He's now reinsured and I've downloaded his damn documents this time!

Thanks for responses and BN for your offer.

Is MCE no more? I insured with them a few years back when they went under that time. They were marginally cheaper last renewal, but I coughed up the extra £50 to use someone else.
