Yesterday I was in that there Welsh Wales trail riding. I have needed glasses for distance for the past few years so a couple of weeks ago got myself set up with contact lenses (dailies). This was the sixth day I’ve worn them. I’ve not had any problems with them beyond getting the bds out, but I’m getting better.

So I rode all day with MX goggles and then drove home in the car in the dark (2.5 hours).

Got home and when I was about to take them out was greeted with this…

Both eyes similar. They feel slightly irritated today.

I’m in at the opticians tomorrow but I was wondering if anyone has had a similar experience with mx or ski goggles - is this common? Anyone seen it before. I’m wary of laser surgery but if this is my only alternative then I’ll have to go down that avenue. I hate wearing specs on a bike, they’re an utter ballache and I’d say are the reason I don’t ride so much anymore.

I wear contacts when riding and I race mx bikes. No issues here but I'll wear glasses to give my eyes a rest in the week and even on race weekends will take the contacts out in the evening. All the dirt etc that still gets through at times doesnt help

Look at the brand you are using too. I switched to a slightly higher quality which have been excellent. If you need the brand name or before and after I'll check and update

I’m new to contacts so not sure what’s happened- I wore them Saturday to drive to Wales, no problem. Sunday to ride, and that happened.

I’ve never worn them two days on the trot before.

I'd go and see your optician. In 25 years of wearing daily disposables that has never happened to me. And I wear them for skiing (goggles), swimming (goggles) and mountain biking (MX goggles).

Cheers - I’m seeing them at 10am tomorrow.

I have a feeling that I might have done it trying to get them out - I’m having a lot of trouble with that.

I would suggest that you have done that yourself when taking them out as I have had similar. The worst was when I actually tore the cornea in my eye trying to take out a contact lens, which it turned out had already come out !!

You will get the hang of putting them in and taking them out but dailies are much harder to do than the more permanent types.

Thanks for that - I have a suspicion that this is what I’ve done; the eyes were a lot more “sticky” (hard to explain, but a hard day behind goggles then driving back to Lancs in the dark). I reckon I’ll need to use drops before removing in future.

Torn cornea sounds horrendous.
