My trusty Dane Goretex suit has seen better days and needs replacing, but I can’t seem to find anything that is vague similar at a reasonable price, and in my size.

Requirements are:

Waterproof laminate - not a liner or membrane
Storm cuffs or some system that stops the water running down your sleeves into your gloves.
A matched pair / same brand.
Available in a small size 31” waist and 38” chest.
Not £2.5k for pair, ideally under £1.5k, but can stretch a bit.

Anyone got any suggestions?

I was looking at the Dianese Hekla, but I don’t think it has story cuffs.

Rukka and Klim seem out of my price range.

Cheers

I wear Klim Carlsbad. The jacket goes over your gloves, which works a treat.

I’ve been out in all weathers and it’s perfect. There’s no liner, so if it’s cold I wear thermal base layers and a down jacket. If it’s hot, open all the vents and wear this base layers.

Comes in comfortably under your budget.

I got mine from Adventure Bike Shop - well worth a look.

I made a similar thread a few years ago.

https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...

I ended up with Richa Atlantic GTX. Under your £2,500 comment at around £1,200ish.

I honestly can't fault them. Comfy (subjective I know) but I've yet to be cold with them, a thermal top from Lidi, a t-shirt and windbreaker thingy.

But also waterproof. I've ridden for an hour in them with just being able to see my hands on the bars due to the rain with no issues.

Hung over the bath over night and fine for work the next morning.

I've got the Richa Cold Protect gloves and they all fit together nicely.

Halvarssons Vansboro jacket and Wish trousers. Laminated, removable outlast liners. About £1100 for the set is where I ended up posing the same question to myself.
They do other laminated jackets with more stretch in them but I think they are fixed liner.
Very good quality, have performed very well for two years now.
The laminate is not Goretex, but that is a different argument, the whole must be Goretex/Goretex is very over priced, up to you which side of that decision you go.

I was going to suggest the Halvarsson range. I got a set last year for doing some touring in (which never happened last year but this will do so) to compliment the one piece leathers I have and they are superb. I can't remember the model name but they really are great. I think the entire set was about £700 (slight reduction from my local bike shop) but they have a removable liner in both trousers and jacket so can be worn in all seasons. Plenty of pockets and super comfy. In fact the North Wales motorcycle police use Halvarsson over anything else which spoke volumes to me.

Same. 180 miles in the rain on Thursday morning along the M4 and stayed perfectly dry.

Rukka Kalix 2.

£1200 for suit (jacket & trousers) 2 layer goretex.

More waterproof than a waterproof thing.

Wear gloves that fit under the sleeves (Rukka Kalix gloves) don't wear the gauntlet style gloves with decent textiles.

I use Revit that fits all of the above criteria. Mine is the Poseidon which I think is an old model now. Looking at sportsbike shop the equivalent seems to be this:

Looks pretty much identical and mine's still great.

Klim Latitude for me, been brilliant, gore-tex laminate but only two later so not too thick and stiff, completely waterproof and with plenty of vents it was even tolerable in India

Thanks all.

After much searching around and including what is in stock I have gone for the Bering Hurricane GTX and matching trousers.

Had to compromise on the storm cuffs, as it seems only the top models of Rukka come with this, and the only other thing was that the zip is only a 1/2 connection. I do prefer a full connection, but as it is a mid-length jacket there is a lot of overlap.

Fitting is good for me and it is nice and lightweight, and less crispy than my Dane suit, which was 3 layer, (this being 2 layer). 3 layer seem to be a fairly heft increase in price. Feature wise it is pretty standard, with better ventilation than the Dane and storage is a bit better with the rear pocket.

Trousers have much better pockets and you can fit something in there without it trying to bury it's way into your groin. Adjustability isn't as refined as the Dane kit, but is better as you can take the trousers up by an inch or so with velcro. There are some weird straps at the bottom. They look to go under your boot.. I think these will come off. I have to say I do miss the shoulder straps, but the trousers are a fair bit lighter so that aren't as needed.

My only gripe is a lot of velcro. But it is more adjustable than poppers.

I tried a Rev-it combination of Trench and both the Globe and Defender 3 trousers and sadly they just did not fit at all. The Trench is great, but is clearly made for someone who long and slim and not with wider shoulders / chest. The trousers are the same. Slim and longer legs and the seat was pretty tight, with the waist somewhat loose. Also the adjustment straps on the Rev-it kit was nigh impossible to adjust with the kit on. The Bering was very easy.

I’m on my second and last Revi’It suit. Never again.

I’ve been down the M2M route before too, won’t be doing that again in a hurry.

Cheap and cheerful in future - can be any more disappointing! smile

have been thinking similar though, that a few cheap and cheerfuls over the same period would probably be good bet

You need to put the cuffs of your gloves inside the cuff of the jacket, rather than the other way around - such a simple change, but hugely effective. You'd think the wind would blow water up from underneath, but it really doesn't - and I say that after doing it that way for many years and with multiple different jacket and glove combinations.

If you have been happy with you Dane outfit, why not get another Dane suit?
I've had a Dane Sealand jacket for about 6 years in nearly daily use and it has been great.

My Dane suit had storm cuffs which were always really good. The previous HG suit I had struggled to get the cuffs under the sleeves. But the Bering suit seems to have room with zips and velcro.

I had the Sealand and Lyngby and would have another straight away if I could find one. I've contacted all the dealers and "what is in stock is what is in stock" and I can't seem to find anything in my size (40). Pity. Dane seems very hard to get, even from FC-Moto and in the EU.

Re. the storm cuff, you can get gloves with double cuff to to the same job. I originally and a pair of Eska ones, then replaced with a identical, presumably rebranded, Racer Pluvio. They have a neoprene inner cuff that goes inside your jacket, and a cordura outer cuff that goes outside. they do a great job of keeping the water out.
