I.e. that lowers the premiums the best. Comparethemarket has a huge array on their drop down. In terms of security I don't really leave the bike out on the street and definitely not out of sight so I'm not fussed from a hardest to crack - more of a which will result in best premiums.

The likes of hiplok and litelok don't feature on the drop downs.

Personally I only go for what I think is the best - I don’t lock my bikes up to lower my premiums, but to stop my property being taken.

Google “securityforbikes” - that’s what I use. Pragmasis.

Usually if there's a discount it will be for "approved" products which are generally Sold Secure

Diamond being the highest rating but thee may be a discount for silver or gold

What I find odd is that they only let you add 2 security devices. So once you add factory immobiliser you can only add one other device. So then you can’t add a ground anchor if you’ve added immobiliser and chain. Just remember that if you list it, you best use it or you will come unstuck if things go wrong.

Are you asking about at home or away? Personally I want the bike secured to something.

I did a quote with and without a Thatcham approved disc lock and it didn’t make a bit of difference.

So I insured it without. My concern would be if I nipped into a shop and didn’t put the disc lock on how much of a pain would it be if the bike was nicked?

Yes I do use security but I decide myself on the circumstances if it’s necessary or not.

I always quote “without” for just that reason. My bikes are always slathered in chains though.

Ive never had a quote reduced because of physical security. More often the insurer enforces the use of secondary approved physical security for high group, high risk bikes or locations. e.g when I first got a new MV Agusta it had to have disck lock and/or chain when leaving it anywhere. By the time is was 5 year old and depreciated in value this clause was not enforced and the insurance premium was much lower anyway.

Its a similar situation with trackers, never been offered a discount, but if you dont have one fitted many insurers will not cover high value/group cars or bikes.

I do exactly that. The price difference is more or less zero, so why expose yourself to a massive problem if it gets stolen the one time you don’t bother because you’ll be back in five minutes?

That’s excellent advice - I currently declare all my security... no more!

Do a quote with and without. Our experience might be different from yours, insurance is a mystery sometimes.

Last time I did it I was on the phone so it was easy to add and take off certain things without resubmitting the whole quote.

Same here (London). Always take out a policy with no additional security declared, makes zero or very little difference to the price. Would never leave it parked outside without a disc lock though and more often a Pragmasis or Almax (I have both) chain to a solid object.

+1 for Pragmasis anchor and Almax chain. I haven't declared either though as I don't want the faff of having to prove it was always secured in a garage and the price difference was nil, I just want to not have to claim, so I use them.
