Google Maps Timeline - How Many Miles Last Year ?

I rarely use Google Maps Timeline but I had an email from it telling me the miles I covered last year

Riding, Driving and Walking

It clearly doesn't monitor daily wandering about, only if you do a dog walk or similar and I still find it hard to believe it's that low

I didn't do as much last year as I'm sorting my late father's estate but I was surprised just how low all of the stats were



The riding one is slightly higher than reality - I've discovered if you drive fast enough, it thinks you're on a motorcycle

If you compare Google's GPS mileage with the bike's odometer, the bike is invariably higher.

Maps thinks that I covered 3,746 motorcycling miles in 2023, but I've kept a record and I've done 4,937 according to the bikes' tripmeters.

Google is impressively accurate at identifying motorcycle journeys (and I did correct any mistakes it made as I went along).

I've compared Google maps distances with the odometer on more than 1 vehicle and it invariably under reads,both walking and driving

Had mine through and it's definitely registering more driving than riding. I know for a fact i did around 8k on the bike last year but its only showing 5 ish. Also shows I did about 400miles of walking (probably accurate).

Just over 4200 miles on the bike for me. A.couple of bike trips abroad accounted for about 1400 miles of this there abouts. I'm not sure I believe the walking though! I've certainly done more that that!
Only done 77 miles on the bike so far this year, mainly down to how bloody cold it is and all the trails being an absolute mud bath around my way at the moment

Feel like Google isn't getting the car and bike bit always right

I used to do a fair bit of mileage in my old job and travelling for track days and Moto x but my detecht is pretty much 1yr old and I don't use it every time

I've done about 7000 miles on my tuono in the year
