I need rear pegs, a rack, electric start. £2-3k.

XL600R
XT600
KLR

Anything else I should look at?

This genre of bike has become super popular so bargains are becoming few and far between. Rear foot pegs (as standard) might be your biggest struggle…

What type of off-roading will it be used for? If just gentle green lanes also consider Suzuki DRZ, Yamaha XT, CCM etc.

All these have rear footrests , if they have a dual seat they will have to have footrests .

Not necessarily, CRFs and others have what you'd call a double seat but no pegs

Really ? All the pictures i can find have rear footrests and they don’t fit in the cc range you wanted .

an earlier KTM 690 Enduro would do this. The Enduro R doesnt have pegs or handles but they can be purchased without too much expense

DR650 or KLX650. The Suzuki donk is a truly all-round reliable and capable bike.

I vaguely recall somebody else on PH having insurance issues with pillion coverage for a bike that didn’t have rear pegs as standard (I.e. retro fitted).

690 enduro has them as standard - they just unbolt easily

I had the 660, I only had it for six months but I loved the thing, back to basics biking, just had something about it that was fun, I think with the simplicity of it I enjoyed the ride much more than I do on more modern bikes where you are more focussed on the bike itself.
As for the bike it felt solid, tractored through everything but it was very top heavy.

It may be a bit bigger/heavier than what you are looking for but I have an old transalp that I use for green laning.
With a few mods it's actually not too bad at all off road, just quite heavy to pick up multiple times in a day!

Decent tyres, footpegs, bar risers, crash bars, bash guard etc and it goes anywhere my brothers tenere will go.
I'm going to get some fork extenders and flip the rear linkage on mine for even more ground clearance.

Being a twin as well its a bit more suited to road stuff than the singles so something similar may be worth a look?

Hmm, thanks. Reasonable money too
