Anyone on here have one of these / have experience of riding one?
I currently have a 17 GSXS1000 which I love. Next year I plan to start taking my lad on the back who is 10 and I can't help thinkiing a GT might be a bit more suited to this type of riding. It has the same engine as mine albeit with more tech and they seem pretty reasonably priced. The only issue being that I also still want to get out with mates on a weekend for a good hoon and wondered what they are like for such shenanigans. I plan to go and test one when the weather picks up but if anyone has any input on them I'd love to hear it. Also if you can suggest an alternative I'm all ears!

I have a GSX-S1000F and from a spec sheet dive, It looks like the GT has the annoying issues from the older model sorted.
Ride by wire - reducing throttle snatch and crude control .
TFT dash - Smartphone integration
I was seriously consider buying one earlier this year and checked out every review out there, a couple of reviewers moaned about the seat, and slightly wooden feeling brakes. A change of Pads can remedy this I'd say.
Bikes are so subjective, you need to have a bash. I'd have one but I had to buy a new car and the Mrs a Svartpilen 125.

Obvious alternatives are the Kawasaki z1000sx or ktm 1390 Superduke GT. Guess you can hoon on anything really. The bike is only as good as the buffoon at the controls and a decent bike can be ridden badly aswell as a bad bike can be ridden well. Other alternative would be something like a multistrada or super adventure or the new Suzuki gsx1000gx

The Kawasaki Ninja 1000SX may be worth a look too. A couple of Old Gits have then and rate them highly.
Good shout. I think it would be a great direct comparison.Whatever you do, don't try the H2 SX!
Yes, had one as a courtesy bike in September when my KTM was in for a service. Multi-brand dealer. It was ok. Engine is good, loads of shove, sounded nice and very smooth. Quite a handsome bike in person compared to the photos. Spacious and roomy, seat was well-padded. TFT is very clear (if a little weird). Gearbox and QS very smooth.
On the flip side it was top heavy at low speeds. Suspension is cheap and feels it, choppy and underdamped. Brakes wooden and uncommunicative and not enough braking power for a bike so big and heavy. It comes right at the end of the lever so feels like ‘nothing, nothing, nothing, EVERYTHING’ when you’re on the brakes. An unusual understeer at normal road speeds, reluctant to tip progressively into corners. I think caused mostly by the OEM tires and not doing a full suspension setup. Plenty of power (150ish HP will never be slow), but not ‘fast’ fast.
Took it back to the dealers thinking overall not bad but not great. It reminded me a lot of my old 2006 Triumph Sprint 1050ST which was a great bike at the time. As would have been the GSX S1000GT had it been released 17/18 years ago…
I was very happy to get my SMCR back.

My wife has the GSXS1000GT and absolutely loves it. She upgraded from a GSXS1000F which she had owned for 5 years and 14k miles (reluctantly as she was very pleased with it and preferred the look of the older bike).
She quickly decided that the GT has much better fuelling, handling and ergonomics. Go for the GT+ as the panniers work really well too.
For a second opinion, our 27 year old son loves the GT too and uses it for mile munching and touring. He also thinks it much better than the earlier bike (which he also used to borrow). He is a young tearaway and usually rides an R1 but considers the GSXS1000GT to have good enough performance to keep him happy and in decent comfort compared to his usual sports bikes.
The quick shifter is impressive, the dash is good but the built in satnav/app thing is a bit dodgy so my wife just uses her phone in a bar mount.

Best asking here tbh pal

I had a 1000F too. Wanted something a bit more pillion friendly (even moreso than the GT, didnt look amazing for pillion when I saw one at the dealer) so got something completely different
Beware - you'll get less range IIRC, and some other niggles that I read about on the forum. Nothing awful though

I had one for a couple of hours when they first launched it. Lovely bike and that engine is amazing when you wind it up.
I also had a go on a versys 1000 and ninja 1000sx on a Kawasaki open day. Very little between the 1000sx and the Suzuki.
What about the new one that's more like the versys 1000? Would think a sports tourer is a better 2 up machine?
Or an adventure bike.. My Super Adventure is brilliant 2 up even if the pillion is 8 years old and egging me on.
Edit here is the one I had.

Emma Franklin of MCN had one on Long Term Test:

It seems a track day revealed issues that were dealt with by a trip to Maxton to sort the suspension.

It's a real shame they haven't fitted an IMU to it - which they've even fitted to the V Strom and new tourer - feels as though it's lacking in that regard. Would be top of my list otherwise. I know you shouldn't rely on it but if I'm spending that money on a newer bike I feel it's a MASSIVE potential safety improvement over a bike without one.
