What do you want to do biking-wise next year? Any bucket list items?

I have two goals:

1. Do another US trip, 5 days on some amazing roads on the Speed Twin. This is a great mental health reset for me, very much needed.

2. And start working on my Dad's old bike, I'm not great at mechanical stuff, so this will be a slow burn.

Gratuitous Pennsylvania pic. There are roads in there somewhere. biggrin

What about you?

To ride more!

My dad was pretty unwell last year so it kind of wrote the year off looking after him and getting sorted. He's turned a bit of a corner now though so this year though I want to:

- Put some miles on the (fairly) freshly rebuilt 1937 Velocette MOV
- Use the newly acquired 1957 Norton Dominator for a year and decide if I want to keep it as it is; high bars and comfy seat. Or turn it into a Manx lookalike cafe racer that I've always wanted!
- Get the '63 Venom back on the road and sorted. The carburation wasn't great last time out, so the new carb' needs some setting up.

Mine is very simple.

Buy a bike after many years of not having one.So far a CB1100 RS is occupying the top spot.

I unexpectedly did 13,000 miles last year so hope to do about the same.

Will start the year off with the Dragon Rally in February.

Go to mid Wales, Elan Valley a couple of times camping in the spring/summer.

Do the RBLR1000 and maybe a Bunburner Gold. Planning on Calais to Gibraltar via somewhere to make 1500 miles in 24hrs.

Do some day trips to some WW1/2 stuff in France and Belgium. Living near the tunnel has its advantages.

Maybe get a 2nd (smaller cc) bike to do the commute on as they want us to go into the office more.

Dad passed away in spring this year so my biking has been pretty curtailed with one thing or another. My goals this year are:

1. I'm working on NO with IAM so pass that and start contributing to the group.
2. Get some days out myself, and plenty of evening runs when the longer nights are back.
3. I'd like to get on holiday on the bike: I met a good bunch of guys recently who've invited me away with them, but their idea of European touring seems to involve lots of blasting along main roads. Hmm.
4. Attend a MotoGP round somewhere (although as her ladyship will be attending I think it'll be by car).
5. Put a toy in the garage.

This year, I have a few ...

1. To get new H2 SX in March and run it in. woohoo

2. To do a weekend away with some Old Git mates in April woohoowoohoo

3. To do the Old Gits trip to the French Pyrenees in June woohoowoohoowoohoo

Not yet scheduled ...

a. Test ride a R1250RT with Mrs K1 with outline plans for some longer trips away together.

b. To do a long weekend away with Mrs k1 doing the WW1 battlefield sites of northern France (on new H2 SX)

c. Do a few rides with my youngest son

d. Hire a bike when Mrs k1 and I visit our place in Portugal and explore some of the roads there.

e. Move the non-bike/car stuff out of my shed into the new shed I've build for the Mrs so I can finally sort the floor of my shed

In amongst all of that, see if there's time to look at getting my BMW 100CS and/or my Honda SS50 back on the road - but I can see those jobs getting shifted to 2025. frown

Sorry to hear about your Dad.

As for your No. 3 - you'd be very welcome to join is in the French Pyrenees in Jun.

1: Survive
2: Get my full licence
3: Become vaguely competent

I doubt I'll be doing any epic international road trips this year but there's lots of more local journeys I would like to do, such as a lap of the Isle of Wight, some of the further corners of the New Forest etc.

I'm trying to decide/plan what the annual 10 day trip is for this year. Its between:
- Alps + Italy + SOF (done before but its so good!)
- Pyrenees + touch of Portugal (totally new)
- NC500 (not sure it really competes with the above)

Same as last year - PLAN MORE !!!!

So when I have a free day I can just jump on a bike and go somewhere interesting - typically a day will pop up and either I won't have a bike ready or I'll spend the morning planning an interesting route and miss half the day

2 Track days
2 Euro trips, one with road bike and one with enduro bike
Hire a bike when I go on the family holiday
2 overnight trips in Wales
ABR - recently met a new group of lads so really looking forward to this one
2 Enduro practice days
2 TRF weekends

If I manage that lot I'll be more than happy

Sammy Millers New Years Day meet, hopefully on the CZ. I don't drink anymore and it's so much more fun than being hungover on Jan 1st.

My third Dragon Rally in February. WIth any luck on my CZ175 or with the CBF500 as a backup (soon to have a Blackbird Stator fitted so my heated gear doesn't keep draining the battery)

A Euro trip around the end of March on my VFR1200. Ideally, France, Belgium, Holland, Germany and back through Belgium and France.

CB500 Owners group Rally at some point.

Two Stroke Owners Rally at some point

To make a decision on the CZ if it is still causing me (and several mechanics) trouble. Been offered another CZ175 and a Jawa 350 at a VERY good price but SWMBO will kill me....

All I want to do is use the bikes more, 3 out of 4 are currently viable so there’s no excuse once I get some mots done. Just need to take some time out and go for a ride.

2023 was a mixed bag.

- I built my track bike but haven’t ridden it yet.
- did 3 decent trips in the alps, renting from Geneva and touring over a long weekend, plus various bimble rides from my friends house in Lausanne just because. Absolutely love that part of the world for riding bikes.
- rode lots of different bikes and developed a love for old 400’s. Was about to do a deal on both a baby blade and an rc35.

Only 2 things happened in October - I tore my Achilles and was made redundant - which ended my season before it really began, and now everything is up in the air until I secure a new role and the visa status that goes with it.

Not sure if I’ll stay here or end up in Europe. If I can pull off the latter then I’ll sell the road legal bikes, bring the projects with me and start over. The thought of being mainland Europe based with an adv/tourer and a bimble bike is pretty appealing tbh.

Had a pretty bikey 2023, and hope for more of the same in 2024 but adding:

• Do trackday on my own bike for once
• Another short European tour… but maybe try to extend to 5 days if I can (two young kids at home makes this tricky)
• Decat/remap MT-10 without making it too obnoxious
• Grow bike YouTube subscribers to 20k (won't happen but I like a stretch target…)
• Do BMW Motorrad Days in Berlin again (vaguely bike-themed party…)
• Ride more bikes!

Having spent much of my 20s and early 30s following the Scotland National Team round Europe, predictably when I stop due to work / children we start qualifying for stuff! As I saw some great games, but also some outright rubbish, if I can get to the Euros in Germany I will - ideally on the Fireblade.

Games are in Munich, Stuttgart or Cologne. The last two are offer great options in the Vosges / Black Forest / Ardennes - but Munich is a long way east. Anyone ever ridden out that way or is it a case of just hit the autobahn and keep it pinned? Streetview isn't really a thing in Germany due to privacy laws so hard to plan a route.
