How easy is it?

I have a funny feeling the pump is going/gone on my CRF450RL, I couldn't start it yesterday (and other times), seems like an intermittent fault, but it nearly left me stranded. FWIW I had lots of fuel and battery power.

Rather than buy whole new pump ($600) there are rebuild kits available that reuse a lot of the housing, like this one:
https://www.fuelpumpfactory.com/en-ca/products/fue...

Would it be fairly easy to put together for a mechanical novice like me?

Jeez, $600 for a fuel pump! I just bought a brand new one for my classic car and it was £30! I was going to ask why you would bother rebuilding one, but definitely worth a go at that price.

Google rebuilding fuel pump for your bike, several videos. From then use your judgement to work out if you have the skills and the tools to do the job.

Recommend taking photographs as you dismantle the pump so that you can refer to them on reassembly.

Remember cars and bikes are built mainly by semi skilled staff so not unreasonable to assume it is possible to dismantle and rebuild unless special tools are needed

Joking aside, for a $500 saving, I'd say you can definitely give it a go.
looking at the kit, I don't think you'll be overly taxed as long as you're methodical.

I'd be more concerned that the pump has failed on what looks like a low hours bike..... maybe look at a decent aftermarket if the OEM is so flaky?

Yeah, that's why I'm looking at this kit rather than a new OEM part. It sounds like it's better than OEM.

I used a similar kit for my KTM EXC, easy stuff. You just need to disassemble the plastic parts surrounding the actual pump and I recall it was all just plastic clips.

Check the part number.

You may find that particular pump is used on various makes and models and you might get a better price or even find a good s/h one.

Fuel injection pumps run higher tolerances for the much higher pressure the produce. So they would cost a little bit more to produce. But the gouging is certainly a thing! $600 must be the whole assembly - pump, filter, wiring, plate..... I'd hope....

I got a generic EFI pump from ebay for under £20, still working a couple of years later.
IMHO worth getting the injector cleaned, or often you can get a new one for not much cash, and of course cleanout/renew all the fuel hose.

This.

The fuel pump for the Aprilia RSV Mille is used in a million different run of the mill cars and is available for about £50!
