Fellas,

Quick post for now just on off chance. My Vitpilen has been stolen. If anyone local could keep an eye out.

Well that turned out to be a st day.

Some of you might recall I recently (July) traded my Monster and VFR in for this Vitpilen. To say I was smitten was an understatement. The bike was perfect for my needs, absolutely mint.

Rode over to visit my mum this afternoon and popped into Sainsbury's on the way bike to grab something for dinner. In the shop for 5-10 minutes and came out to an empty bay. Lot of witnesses saw two young lads basically just run off with it. Spent the last 7 hours on a wild goose chase trying to track it down. Let police know right away but had some leads on local SM so went looking.

Phone insurance first thing tomorrow I guess and go from there.

Absolutely gutted.

Oh and yesterday I dropped and scuffed my pristine new gloss black Shoei. That felt like a big deal for all of 24 hours!

It never rains...

Surely you mean the nice new gloss black Shoei that you left attached to the bike when it was nicked? smile

ste news though, hope the insurance goes through without too many issues, I would hope for the bike back but I'd never trust it again if scroates had proeprly fked with it!

sorry to hear- the price of having a desirable motorbike.
you left it unlocked and someone drove past and just saw the chance.

I had a customised vitpilen 401 which got nicked, i replaced it with a new one and within 4 month it got nicked again.

cant have anything nice unless you can keep it hidden!

I'm using my bike less and less for daily duties just because I hate leaving it parked up everywhere.

bds.

I know it is too late but a tracker is a very cheap addition and work very well.

Hi all. Belated update to this thread. Was not wanting to post too many details whilst everything was up in the air.

Firstly, thanks for the nice and/or scornful messages! I'm still absolutely gutted as you can imagine.

To answer the question above from norseman, the bike was just parked up in a bay (well sort of a bay, it has a tree in it so no good for a car) with no security. Steering lock wasn't on and nor did I put my disc lock on. I was honest with the insurer about this and did have some concerns that I might have shafted myself completely, but I was never going to lie. Thankfully, I have had a conversation with them today and they have settled the claim and sent me the money - fair play to them. They valued my bike a smidge more than I paid for it so with the excess I am only about £200 down (plus what I spent on my mirrors, rad guard, etc so maybe £4-500 down total). Not bad considering what I was fearing.

I have had very little response from the police. Despite giving them some very useful information nothing has been done as far as I am aware and I've had no call from the officer investigating - just an email that I responded to on the 5th and haven't heard anything since. It is disappointing but I don't want to criticise the police really, its not their job to bring up these kids to not steal bikes and not ride around like lunatics with no helmets is it...

A lot of people have said I probably wouldn't want the bike back now anyway, which is probably true given that I've been told it has been seen with 3-people-at-a-time riding on it. God knows how my pride & joy has been treated furious

So that's where I'm at as of today. I suppose the only saving grace is I love nothing more than the chase when looking for a new bike or car and I now get to do that hehe

Good to hear you can now get a replacement and you aren’t massively down.I don’t blame the police for not prioritising bike theft only there seems to be no deterrent for it and if they catch them fk all will happen

Glad its semi resolved, Wherever I park mine now disc lock and steering lock are straight on. But even that wont stop them.

might seem like a really silly question but do modern bikes come with alarms and tip sensors? Wondering whether the reality is riding away or bold as brass just pick them up alarm going and into a van

Same here; I never leave it at all without the steering lock and if it is over a handful of minutes, it is disc lock. More than that and it is a heavy chain to an immovable object.

OP sorry. Sucks.

I've ordered an Oxford chain with an orange shroud around it so at the very least it is a good visible deterrent. I almost always ride with a backpack so carrying it around not too much of an issue.

I wonder if the insurer will mandate some additional security measures in order to insure me again...?
