I’m not a gs owner and not looking but I’ve always liked the iconic look of the GS, this new one to me just looks like the rest of the field now.
I’m sure it’ll still sell in bucket loads though.
Likewise.I’m sure it’ll still sell in bucket loads though.
At first glance it looks like a Suzuki. If it hadn’t been for the cylinder heads and BMW badges I’d have believed someone if they had told me it was a new V-Strom.

Glad it looks smaller and more svelte than the outgoing.
Whilst I like the utilitarian look of the current GS, it is terrible from an aero perspective when riding at speed. Fuel economy significantly drops by c.20+% between 70 (58mpg) and 85 (43/44mpg).
If the R13GS can lose 5-10% in physical size+weight whilst producing 110lbsft + 145hp, it will make the Multistrada and KTM alternatives feel slow and massively overweight.

I think the looks of the 1250 are one of its strongest points, for an ADV bike it looks coherent and well proportioned. The new bike is highly unlikely to shed much weight given the fundamental issues of a hulking great engine, weighty drive train and such.
If the numbers are correct it'll perform well but the KTM is going to 1400cc so the BM won't see which way it went.
Won't stop BMW selling gazillions of them though.....
I’ve currently got a 1250gs which is fantastic best bike I’ve owned. Ive tried all the others big advs but it’s the wallop of torque making it equally fast as the rest in the real world despite their horsepower numbers. The levels of comfort and overall quality of everything on the bike that just works is what sets it apart from the rest.
I think visually this will be a grower and as usual seeing in the flesh and seeing all the details will make for a more desirable cohesive package rather than making judgement from photos.
I am ordering.

It’s an interesting design. The 1200LC looks weren’t well received back in 2013 but it’s gradually become a very handsome looking bike, the 1300 might be the same.
The radar cruise module at the front is a real misstep though, and the ‘beak’ is a little generic.
Hopefully they’ve solved the main issue of the current model, the woeful electronic suspension.

Ever since I first started riding I've preferred >1000cc bikes. I dip into smaller bikes, currently running a VFR800 but I miss the torque. Seems like the world is coming round to my way of thinking.

Gotta love speed demons who claim the GS is slow. KTM is an unreliable toy in comparison. I wouldn't be able to see which way a very good/very crazy rider went if they were on a 250.

Not immediately impressed, my first thought was Crosstourer, will have to see it in real life.
One of the reasons I have had three GSes is they're great for tall people. From some of the pictures, this new one looks to have quite a low seat height, so I hope that's just an illusion.
The green one certainly made me think Crosstourer too, looks like a much lower seat than the blue one too.One of the reasons I have had three GSes is they're great for tall people. From some of the pictures, this new one looks to have quite a low seat height, so I hope that's just an illusion.
I think they look a bit better than the current models, bit more oomph won't hurt but I suspect most GS buyers won't care if something else is "quicker", just more unused power.
