The limit here is not power but traction and rider ability.

2k doesn't get you much these days.
I had a 929 blade years back, think that was 3ish to 60mph and 5ish to 100mph if I remember correctly.

Can probably get one of those for that sort of money at a push.
The early R1s seem to be modern classics and priced accordingly.

Auto trader has an RSV1100 Mille on for 2k so I’m gonna say that.

Saw a high mileage (56k or there abouts) Honda Blackbird for sale week or two ago on Facebook for £1950. See a few fall under £2k occasionally but usually higher miles and bit rough round the edges. Can’t think of much else that would match that.

Mint, low miles are between £4k and £5k.

A ‘bird is a good shout for something decent that is up for that money quite commonly.

You’ll also see the occasional early K GSXR 1000.

Actually completely agree, I’ve taken my TVR up the quarter at Santa Pod and traction and my right foot were definitely the limiting factors hehe

Fair enough. My point being that any 1000cc bike (and very likely 600cc plus) at £2K will be the same on acceleration. Any difference will be down to the ability of the rider and having a reasonable tyre on the back. But you probably knew that. Buy what you like the look of thumbup

Project you say? You'd probably pick up a rough ZX12R for your budget. Not going to be slow.

'98 onwards ZX9R is supposed to be pretty quick in that regard.

MCN write ups said ZX-9R was first production bike to do 1/4 mile in less than 10 secs.

Seems unlikely especially as this review has it at 10.6 https://www.motorcyclenews.com/bike-reviews/kawasa...

Current 1000s with 200 bhp + dip into the 9s and a busa or zzr 1400 would do 9s on a really good surface. A standard zx9 isn’t doing 9s. Fast though, and still cheap.

OK, I possibly heard it on an Australian YouTube video.

Perhaps I am wrong and the accolade was first production bike to do it in the 'tens' as in under 11 secs.

This is a good shout. I toured on my Gen 1 Tuono 1100 and a mate ran a Blackbird had about 50k on it. With me doing a perfect launch off the lights vs his Blackbird they were near on identical but he was more consistent getting it off the lights

They might be a bit long in the tooth but they are still pretty quick off the mark. Longer bike so launching is easy too.

That would fit the budget

I think there was an element of Bullsh*t to these old quotes. A modern superbike will do a high 9

A modern supernaked with circa 170-180hp will do a very low 10 (My Tuono 1100 I have done 10.3s)

I just dont think bikes like those ZX9Rs and similar had it in them unless its a yank article where they do that rollout subtraction to get those few extra tenths
