Changing bikes tomorrow. Part exing the Ducati Monster 937 for a cheaper slower Triumph Speed Twin 900.

Thought at most I would just be stumping up an admin charge. I was so wrong.

Current multi bike policy that covers my Monster and Vespa is £380 fully comp.

Apparently this underwriter won't cover the new Triumph so I have to cancel and take out a new policy at ........£600 yikes I'll get £212 back from old policy if I stay with Bennetts.

Or insure the Triumph only for £381 and sell/give away my much battered Vespa.

Or go back to Swinton and they'll cover the Vespa for £80.

What I don't get is that I thought I was doing the sensible thing in chopping the Ducati in for the Triumph for many reasons including lowering my costs.

Sorry for the moan but after getting the original decent quote from Bennet's for the Monster then only having to pay £40 to add the Vespa, I thought today's swap would be a breeze.

Without Loon, I suspect no one will be able to "explain" why this is the best reeult for you, the customer. frown

And I've just been on Meerkats and that Bennetts quote is the cheapest quote.

Guess like everything else, prices have shot up and I'm getting caught out as the current underwriters won't cover the Triumph.

I’d probably substitute ‘explain’ for ‘zealously defend’!

Insurance always hammers you on a new to you bike.

Triumph servicing is stupidly expensive in the dealer network, I wouldn’t be surprised if cost to repair is too.

Insurance aside, how much are you getting for your Monster and how much is the Triumph costing? If a cheaper bike is going to end up costing you more, then maybe don't go through with it!

That'll explain why to insure either the Ducati or the Triumph today the cost is the same...£380 cheapest according to MeerKats, that's with Bennetts.

Guess both dealers are considered high end.

I'll just have to stump up the £160 after Ducati refund, for just the Triumph and it'll give me the kick up the backside to sell the Vespa which I only do about 500 miles a year on anyway.

It's not in the best condition cosmetically but it'd make a useful hack for someone.

Did toy with that idea but deposit paid and new bike is already registered to me.

Besides I wanted a bike that was easy in traffic as well as fine for a countryside blat, and the Ducati is a pain in traffic.

Likes to be ridden and I just find it hard work keeping it at the 20 and 30 limits. It's stalling at 20 in second gear.

Yes, it has lost me a load of cash but then I wasn't using it.

Just called them back up to finalise the deal and the quote on the Triumph is 60 quid less.

Just seen the same on Meerkats aswell. Talk about dynamic pricing.

It's like playing the markets so I locked in the price as who knows what'll it be tomorrow?

Did you try a later (euro 5) Scrambler 800? I find the mapping with the cable throttle delicious! Just maybe not from cold smile

Funnily enough I watched a long review of the 800 yesterday. I didn't know of them until then or I would have tried one.

I presume it's in a far softer state of tune than the Monster 937.

I'll be first to admit that I should not have bought a bike for reliving my youth. For some reason it reminded me of my RD250LC hehe

So I went for it without thinking. It's a brilliant machine, quick with flattering handling but manages to be stable at speed on the motorway........as long as you hang on smile

He's still here occasionally, he doesn't work in insurance any longer though.

Have you got it yet, or are you taking it home in the rain? I'm curious to know your thoughts on the new machine.

Try doing it for 30 days time. Obviously clear your cookies / different email address / wear a mask etc

It used to be that 21 days was the sweet spot but now it seems its the max 30 days ahead you can get the quote.
