Do modern ‘budget’ Supersports have enough?
Discussion
OP has deleted his post but to summarize:
He cant afford the new 765 that he currently owns but cares what others think so wants a cheap new(ish) bike that looks fast
Is an R7 or similar that much worse to ride ?
That you would consider sacrificing 50 bhp for looks - rather than buying an older fast bike, has answered the question
I wouldn't consider it but I don't care what a bike looks like, only what it rides like

Are we talking about things like the R7 etc?
If so, no. They're a f
king embarassment.
That was exactly what he was talking about - did he delete his post after you posted that ? If so, no. They're a f

OP if you're into looks over performance that's fine, my brother was the same
But those of us who rate performance over looks, will judge you

To be fair I don't think it's claiming to be a 130hp supersport... and calling it an 'embarassment' just reeks of weird male bravado because a big company didn't make a bike that wasn't for you.
Anyway, an R7 definitely isn't a commuter, the riding position is actually pretty extreme...

Because it's roughly 50hp down on the old Supersport 600 class.....
Tarted up parallel twin commuter.
I looked at the R7 as a possible zx6r replacement, when you get close they are just a commuter with a fairing full of cost cutting (steel frame). The aprillia seems better but the parallel twin does stink of cheap. The sv650 had so much potential imoTarted up parallel twin commuter.
Not everyone requires a sports bike that revs to 16000 rpm, tops 170 mph and needs to be ridden at 9/10 everywhere to get any satisfaction out of them. A few people like the style but want/ needs something that is more suited to British roads and speed limits. There plenty of people that can lap tracks faster on a 100 bhp bike than some others can manage on a bike of nearly twice the bhp.
I cleared the post as I took my 765 out shortly after, had a bit of fun and thought perhaps I’m just being silly.
But there is the old age saying of riding something slower fast is more fun than riding something fast slow. The 765 is great, but I can’t fully utilise it on the public road for sure.
With winter in sight I imagine I’ll just wait and cross my fingers for an R9 announcement at EICMA and hope the price isn’t ludicrous!

This is exactly what I'm talking about. This thing is effectively touted as a replacement for the R6 when it's nowhere near the same thing.
At least the RS660 is getting nearer to the same ballpark in design and power.

Nothing to do with male bravado. It's to do with Yamaha trying to get a basic commuter to be seen as a replacement for one of the best supersports bikes ever made.Anyway, an R7 definitely isn't a commuter, the riding position is actually pretty extreme...
