Thought id appeal to all the powerfully built directors on here looking for an investment on all that cash they say they have!

I think you're in the wrong PH forum for willy-waving company directors, BB is generally pretty sound in that regard...

i looked into it very seriously one year and the cost to sponsor/name on bike or leathers for a team running at the back was prohibitive.

Admittedly it was BSB main event and not a lower class but it’s a quick way to become a millionaire when you’re a billionaire or so the saying goes

It came as a bit of a shock to us all, as we'd basically been told that JSS was going to be replaced by the ZX4R cup next year, and that Stk600 had another year to run until 25 when the twins class was coming in. My lad went into Stk600 this year from JSS very much with a two year plan as he'd just turned 16, so now we're stuck with either finding a ride in SS600 or Stk1000, both of which are likely to be another £30k/year to compete in over the already very expensive stock6 class.

The rumour mill is going wild though, and although I've seen first hand just how many people are interested in the ZX4R cup, the twins class is very much unpopular, and in fact, I only know 1 or 2 at a push that are actually considering doing it, so it might not even run at all as BSB are not putting a grid of 10 bikes out to their embarrassment

The ZX4R cup sounds like a cracking idea. It's a more sensible route for young riders who want to go the superbike route rather than the Moto3 etc route I reckon.

Is that happening then? Apologies if that's common knowledge, I don't really follow much of the gossip tend to just enjoy watching the racing smile

On the face of it, that surprises me. I'd have thought this class was pretty much tailored for the guys that do twin racing on the roads.

But then again how many of them aren't already racing something else.

Then comes the cost, theyre cheap bikes to get into (for the most part) but tuning the engines up to be competitive will be for those with deep pockets only.

They're a very different spec to a roads twin, and have to run on a control ECU/Loom/Dash as part of MSVR's balancing rules, that will also mean some bikes get weight added, rev's reduced etc.
I think the original plan was to attract in the twins club racers, hence no age restrictions, but as most people who race twins at club racing do it as it's pretty cheap, I doubt if many of them would be interesting in investing big bucks to go to BSB (I heard that a race ready R7 for that class is around £31k)
Plus, and it's a big issue, is the 'Balancing rules' are very likely to favour a certain type of bike, and until the class has had a season or so to get running, no ones going to know which is the bike to have and don't want to risk spending big bucks on a bike that can only get 8th-10th place.

The ZX4R cup is official now, and I think will be mega racing for kids taking their first step into BSB. It's basically a 80BHP ZX6R (they weigh about the same too)

Thats quite disappointing to hear because like many I assumed it would be a cheap entry to national level racing. Balancing is a very fine art as we have seen in BSS and WSBK and at this level would take quite a bit of trial and error, which goes hand in hand with cost!

Very excited for the ZX4Rs, they will sound fantastic!
