In a parade lap at the Manx Grand Orix this week, on a big standard travelling Marshall’s bike he had never ridden before or setup

Nearly a 128mph lap and popping wheelies for fun.

That'll have added to the value of that bike.

Thank fk. My first thought seeing that was that he'd joined his uncle and brother. Cracking rider. Got a quick photo with him once at a bike show.

The video, from which that still/grab is taken, is more impressive!
'can't find it on YouTube, though.

Great rider, mighty odd bloke though.
Wins tonight at a canter in the Manx GP Classic Superbike race, new lap record of nearly 127MPH on a Suzuki GSXR 750. Then in the post race interview proceeds to slag off nearly every aspect of the bike, claiming that it was so bad he nearly retired at the end of the first lap. Rear suspension knackered, gearbox knackered etc, etc. Clearly BS as he won at a canter. confused

Is this supposed to be classic racing then? The bike he was on is pretty much similar to what people ride now plus 20+ years of racing tips and tricks.
Last I looked they were running the big old aircooled lumps at the classic tt.

Its a travelling marshals bike on a parade lap.

Would be a good story if he entered it in the race.

Thje bike he won the race on was a gsxr750 watercooled/compact engine/light weight etc. Like todays bikes.
But true, the story was posted about him on the marshall bike.

Sorry! Didn't realise you were referring to the bike he was competing on. It's an interesting debate. Should they run classic tyres too? Guess they have to draw the line somewhere.

Michael Dunlop like the rest of his racing family are absolute legends. He is a major draw for many fans going to the Manx or TT races. Whilst I haven’t been to the Manx, a week at the TT every year is an absolute must.

I just hope Michael has no thoughts on retirement and we can watch one of the TT greats for years to come.

Not fell out with another team has he? Not ideal laying into a Team classic Suzuki bike if you want to ride it next year.

I guess they've got to move the regs on as the target audience moves on. People watching now have best memories of these 90s bikes.

Reminds me of Roy Keane, always pushing for more and is very driven - might not be everyone’s cup of tea but he can sure ride a bike.

Dunlop was very impressive in the Classic Superbike race and the parade lap.
The cutoff date for the Classic Superbike class moved in 2022 from pre-1993 machinery to pre-1997 machinery which meant that Suzuki GSX-R 750, Yamaha YZF750, Kawasaki ZX7RR, Honda RC45 and Ducati 916 became eligible and these outclassed the Suzuki XR69s, RG500s, Yamaha OW01s, YZR500s, Kawasaki ZXR750s, Honda RC30s and Ducati 888s.
