Hi trying to remember some names of Motorcycle shops from the past. Predominately around Manchester/ Greater Manchester

Time line around 60,s 70, 80,s

Couple I can think of were

BJ West on Deansgate
Derek Johnson on Deansgate

Very first place I ever took my AR50 for an MOT in 1984.

My dad was a vet and used to look after their Alsatian.

PEMS trials and mx bikes on Drake St in Rochdale. Steve, who I’m still very good friends with to this day, did every single MOT for about 20 years thereafter. I even did him a website.

There was two I was trying to remember. One on Portwood in Stockport. It would have been in the right as you were heading for Mersey Square. Bought a moped from here a Puch SDP in black and gold with mag wheels.

And the other was Pip Highams in I think Walkden but can’t quite place where it was. Had an engine from a Z1r rebuilt and heavily modified. I think the owner used to run drag bikes

Warwick’s Motorcycles, Heywood. Bought my first bike (aforementioned green AR50 from there).

Rochdale Yamaha Centre, Oldham Road. Bought my RD125LC from there - my 17th birthday. Paid for at £12/week from my “Saturday boy” job at Tesco in Rochdale.

AC Quip in Bury. Used to hang out there on school lunchtimes.

Thanks. That had been driving me mad. As soon as I read the name of the shop loads of memories came flooding back.

Bought my first 250 from here in 1979. Suzuki 250 X7 for I think £795.

Had the workshop round the back with a massive slope down to it.

Sold a GS500 to them back in the early 1990s. Spotted it a few years later in another bike shop in Rochdale - or somewhere up that way - and in the meantime someone had fitted a fairing and done several thousand fewer miles than when I sold it.

There was one at White City in Old Trafford. Presumably went when the junction was remodelled with the roundabout. Bought my MBX80 there.

That's where my 1969 TR6 came from.
