Hi the bike had a minor mishap during an over ambitious uturn last year.

I managed to “lay her down” as gently as I could, minimal scuffage - but now I spotted that oil is slowly weeping 3000 miles later. Up until now it has been fine.

I was riding near the place it was purchased so asked them for a quote and it was £320 all in to supply and fit.

As this bike was destined to be part exed next season a mate has suggested I try and repair it instead.

Any thoughts on wether a repair is workable ? (I tend to want to make things right and safe for the next owner so not looking to offload the problem).

Pics below you can just see the trace near the dent, after 20 miles yesterday it became visible, oil levels are fine when upright

Given how small the area is I'd be inclined to try a bit of JB Weld....gouge it out a little, make sure it's chemically clean. If it doesn't work you are no worse off and if it does work you've saved several quid.

Nothing to help you but well done on trying to get it fixed rather than punting it on.

I bought a GSXR 750 a few years ago and stored it in a mates garage. He phoned me up to say there was a puddle of oil under it. On taking the fairing off I found a lump of crankcase held on by plastic metal.

It had had a LOT of owners so heaven knows how many had found this out and got shot of it.

I had a mate who had the right welding equipment and he was able to effect a permanent repair with not too much difficulty. How much easier would it have been to do that rather then do a stty thing and pass the problem on.

Have a look on ebay for a pre-loved one, they normally aren't particularly expensive.

That plus a new gasket when you next do an oil change and it will probably be less than £50 all-in.

This, all day
Better than a bodged repair and probably cheaper than getting it welded.

An ex of mine crashed her bike and damaged the crankcase with a hairline crack around a bolt hole, which was deformed when the bike wedged itself under a guard rail (but it did saving the bike from sliding down a mountain in the Alps on one of the Swiss/Italian passes from memory). I fixed it from the inside with some 3M epoxy, it was some aircraft grade stuff that still retained a good percentage of it's strength at higher temperatures, also used F1 where they need to glue the cars together, where my supply came from.

That fixed the oil leak 100%, and stayed that way for a few years she finally wrote it off totally in another accident.
