How do the chinese manage to get bikes through emissions when the mainstream manufacturers can’t? Especially when they are using engines that are donkeys years old in design .

I'd guess by ny running them super lean, adding extra exhaust gumpf, detuning etc. But that's only some Chinese bikes.

A lot of the more modern stuff the Chinese produce are new units, with modern engineering. Ie: CFMOTO, Zongshen, Qianjiang. Its pretty decent.

A lot of the larger capacity chinese bikes use kawasaki units , but the 125 cc, seem to use reworked cg125 type and the 500ish singles bikes use what looks like xt500/xl500 aircooled lumps ,the japs junked these designs as unable to get them through emissions, even harley dumped the v rod which was a modern design that they couldn’t get through euro 5.

Is the manufacturer's word taken for it, or are random sample machines purchased and then submitted for lab testing?
