I guess some of know ive had problems.
Hopefully they are getting resolved now and im getting hopeful of a return to 2 wheels for the spring.

Now im a Honda boy through and through and with a milestone birthday on the horizon im debating new.

Obviously me being me, its not simple,What I need is 2 wheels that will do a 6 mile round trip commuting, run little errands and only have fun trips 10% of the time. The list ive come up with is a little confused.

First. The CBR650r. Well I could just look at this thing all day, dare I say better than a Blade? But its a bit portly and its 8 grand.
Next. The CBR500r. Compared to the above would it be 2nd best, its still on the heavy side at 190kg and its still 6 grand.
Then. The CB300r. Maybe this is perfect? Light, genuine 100mph so no problem doing the limit and only 5 grand.

Sensible options.
SH300. Ticks all my uses, but is it fun? Could I take to BSB and hold my head up and not have it nicked, Also 5 grand
C125. I love these things, everything a bike basicly needs to do, but is it value at £3750?
CB125F. I had its grandad, easily the worst gearbox Ive ever used, but its only 3 grand new, could it be an enough bike?

And finally.
The vision 110. Its an honest simple machine, less than 3 grand, but would I get bored?

Glad ive written this down, as I really dont know what, if any of the above would be suitable.

Does it have to be new?

I've only ever owned bikes that are over 10 years old until recently and will be buying secondhand for the forseeable.
Only reason I mention it is that a CB600F / Hornet would surely fit the bill and save you thousands.

Powerful, reliable, good brakes, comfortable, cheap and plentiful spare parts, a doddle to work on, still look quite decent and did I mention cheap?

For your use, and if wanting a Honda, a midi-scooter would be perfect - Forza 350, ADV350. More fun than you think, plenty of stop/go poke, and very practical. Would you win admiring glances from the masses? Probably not… but turn up to a BSB meet and you’ll guarantee most of the racers there would know you’ve made a wise choice for road riding.

If you just want to pose around and look like a tart, forget the rest, just buy a Fireblade.

Personally I hated the Hornet round town which the short (3mi) commute and run little errands suggests. Absolutely no go low down and all top end 10k+ which was >50mph. Despite the far lower power I far preferred the CB500....but then the Hornet would be more fun on the open road.

On the assumption that OP is only considering new and looking at the range I think I'd go CB500F.

If you are looking at the possibility of buying new next spring what about the new Triumph 400? If it lives up to the hype it should tick all your boxes.

No, from doing lots of reading up and research on them. Came close to buying 1 and may still in the future.

Sounds like a CB500F or a 350 SH / Forza / ADV would fit your brief?

You're open to used bikes but TBH if you look at the depreciation figures, you might find that there's no real benefit to buying used if you compare the numbers over 3 years from Retail to Trade-In. Used bikes are expensive these days!

It's a shame Honda only make an MSX125 which is great fun but lacks power and decent lights.

A 200 or 300 version would be brilliant.

Suzuki do the VanVan200 but that's comfortable rather than fast but seems to be a tester favourite.

Oh and my Suzuki SV650S was far better built than my MSX.

Same as the Honda super cub, Amazed they never did a 300!

Anyway stopped by my local dealer early this morning to look through the window ( yamaha/piaggio dealer but hey ho), and I think it will be a scoot or maxi scoot ( why do I feel like im coming out again?)
As much as I like the bikes dont think they are suitable and Id use a scoot a lot more.

As a sidenote, when did big bikes shrink? The R7 is TINY! but an insurance quote of £6655 has put me off that kind of idea ( a 7 year old cbr650r is only £185 to insure tho?)

the new hornet is a nicer bike (IMHO) that the CB650s.

NC750 is a decent and cheap to run motor (if not exciting)

Was it the new R7 and not the old one? Brand new bikes cost more to insure, but that's insane for a tarted up commuter bike.

Will you actually use it for fun/pleasure rides?

I know most people think they will but if they commute they then often can't be bothered going for a Sunday ride.

Only mention it because if you take that requirement out then a Scooter fits the bill.

My commute is 20 miles each way so I feel I can still justify the VFR800 but often I'm sure a Maxi scooter would be better. And my wrists would appreciate it.

Very occassionally, like I said, id like to rock up to a few BSB meet without feeling ashamed or without the risk of it being liberated to become a paddock bike.

I know I said Honda,BUT.., I went past the Piaggio dealer this morning and have come across the Melody(125), which on the face of it is everybit as good as a big H scooter. They also have something called Beverley, which with the vespa 300 engine really does sound perfect even at a tickle under 5k. But not sure I bring myself to have one as at some point Id say im going outside to ride Beverley.. ( What a stupid name for a bike)
