Rode this again this morning after 19 yrs…
Discussion
I used to do a fair few track days on it back in the late 90s/ early naughties, it’s got a sniff more power than standard, 115rwhp, and I could generally keep up with ‘Blades and 916s. After such a long time off it, it simply blows my mind that I used to have the pegs on the ground, then fire it out down the next straight, thru the famous RC30 shudder at about 7000 rpm then feed it another gear at 120000.
But what really pickles my brain, is modern litre bikes. 200+ bhp!!!!!!! How on Earth do people ever use these properly??!!
Anyway, I’m so glad I got back on the old girl and fully intend to (gently) ride her a bit more regularly.

That and electronics.

I am no riding god, so this is just an opinion, but I’d say that the way to go fast on track has changed significantly since the RC days - you’d want to carry as much corner speed as you could in the 90’s, whereas today it’s all point-and-squirt and v-shaped apexes. That and electronics.
I recall a track day at Brands in, oooh, 1999/2000 when I was convinced I’d absolutely nailed the entry into Paddock Hill bend, braked as late as I dared, etc, only for a (recently retired?) Neil McKenzie to to fly past me on his old Boost YZF750, hook another gear, then BRAKE and tip it in. By the time I’d got round Druids and approached Graham Hill bend he’d disappeared……….🤣
Bilkob, we did a track day at Thruxton around that time with Steve Parrish.
Neil McKenzie was there on the Cadburys boost Yamaha.
I was going around Church as fast as physics would allow on my fireblade when
he came around the outside of me probably 30mph faster, one hand on the throttle
Whilst looking behind trying to adjust the rear shock.
