Taking the kids on holiday to Mallorca so thought I'd hire a bike for a few days as they'll just sit around the pool

Any tips before I go ?

I'm going to take my own gear and obviously my licence, had a quick look and the best option seems to be a Ducati Scrambler unless there's off road options

The usual, check it has brake pads and that everything works, I hired a GS a couple of years ago and the rear pads were completely shot, also try not to fall off as its a touch inconvenient when abroad.

Some decent options here, the himalayan is very cheap and in reality all you need on the island

I'm looking at this too. The North Coast road is a better, even in a car. A lot of places only rent helmets - I want full kit which this place provides.

Personally fancy the Monster 797

I wasn't going to bother taking my helmet but as my wife pointed out, everyone will have been sweating profusely in the hire ones all summer

Definitely taking my mesh jacket too

Hadn't thought about checking brake pads but that's a good point

I'm not looking for the latest greatest thing because I want to be looking at the scenery but I couldn't cope with an enfield have found one place with Guzzi V7s

Make sure your travel insurance covers you. I'm sure standard cover I've had in the past in the event of an accident will only cover up to a certain cc.

This.

Most standard travel insurance doesn't seem to cover anything other than riding small cc bikes & protective clothing being required when it comes to hiring abroad.

Navigator travel insurance cover you for trackdays and big bikes. They're also good if you have existing conditions and provided best cover (fortunately not needed) when going to Australia and my wife was expecting.

I've just done mine with Admiral, was surprising cheap for them just £14.95 extra (on top of a standard policy cost) for 1 yr Europe cover for 125cc and above, think they covered it under hazardous activities. As I'm off to Gran Canaria in November - can't wait..!
If anyone has any tips for actual proper sunny riding in hot countries I'd be interested. I too am taking own helmet, due to what has previously been mentioned re: sweaty heads, and own mesh jacket.

I’m in Mallorca now and last week, when we had a couple of overcast days forecast, the gf and I got a 300cc maxi-scooter and covered approx. 350km over a couple of days, wearing nothing but shorts, t-shirt and flip-flops.

While I’m not recommending that same approach, my advice would be to not overthink it.

ps. No one indicates when navigating roundabouts…at all…

Whilst I have got away with no helmet on the field bikes of my youth and 175's on holiday, I'm now more sensible

If you want to risk fingers, toes and skin grafts fair enough but I'm now an ATGATT

but I probably ride faster as I feel safer biglaugh

We used these in April with my father in law and had a fantastic day riding a pair of BMW 1250GSs.

Really couldn’t fault them at all. Worth having a guide (€70 extra iirc) cater heavily for Germans (who were also cool)

Good to know. I've been to Mallorca before so I know where I'm going - did they deliver to the hotel? I'm in Magaluf which is the other side of the island to them

Not sure on that one, they were happy for us to pick them up the day before though. Don’t know if that would help?

Why do you need a guide ?

Genuine question, surely the most you need is GPX or just a rough route

If we’d had them for several days then we’d probably have made our own route. But it just took all the hassle out of it, nice waterside table booked ready in Pollensa same with the coffee stops and good company with the other German guys.

We had a great day and it worked for us

Not hugely but thanks for replying. If I have to go across the island on public transport it becomes two days out the family holiday rather than one.

How have you chaps found taking helmets on planes. Especially Ryanair..!? I have got a checked in bag (23kg) and that includes a small bag on board with me, so I was hoping this could be my Helmet..? Although know how bad they are, have you ever been charged extra due to the helmet not being actually a small bag..??

Have taken a helmet and a small rucksack on easyJet this year without fuss. It's your hat after all....
