Looking at a nearly 3 yr old Forza 300 at SuperbikeFactory. 70 plate, only 690 miles, semi fancy it for runs into the city centre.

£4198 + £200 admin fee + £52 tax = £4450 (or £4650 with delivery) for a scooter that was new on the road for £5100.
Even with the low mileage their pricing seems daft, though on a par with others. I struggle to see the point of buying used when there's no shortage of new ones (the updated 350 model at £5800) as the depreciation is barely different over a 3 year period anyway. Am I missing something?

You have options. Offer what you want to pay for it. They accept, buy it. They’re a business.

I’ve bought a couple of bikes and a car where they have tried to charge an admin fee, tell them to shove it(in a nice way😉),
It’s not a lot but it all counts .

They tend to be good on pricing so I assume there are enough people happy to save £700 or whatever over a new one. If it needs and has had a paid for running in service that’s another saving on a new one.

I bought an MT-09 Tracer from them, they waived the admin fee but that was it. The bike was fairly priced against the market IMO.

Get eyes on it if you can; their stock has..... varying levels of quality, to put it kindly biggrin

Yeh the admin fee would piss me off straight away.

That's just a random, we want to charge you more money fee.

Just tell me what the all in, on the road price is, and I'll decide if I want to pay it or not.

Yeah, I've noticed some pretty ropey looking bikes on their site. Some of the scooters look like they've seen hard use for food delivery & never been washed until SBF bought them into stock.

Agree. They advertise that they're £300 below average market price, only to charge a £200 admin fee. Presumably to get them up the list on a BikeTrader search & sort.

I know prices have shot up during the past 3 years but even now, £3850 is where I see this bike. Some of the Forzas on BikeTrader have been on for months. I've always considered March - July to be peak buying time. If they're not selling then, then they're too expensive. Bikes are a hard sell from late Sept on. I wouldn't mind one now but think I'll probably just leave it & buy a new Forza 350 or ADV early next year.

Friend of mine who trades bikes said currently it’s quite slow, people on holiday, interest rates etc. SBF stock seems very poorly prepared and an admin fee ? I thought Arthur Daley had retired.

£200 admin fee?!

I know from personal experience that they cold call/offer a really low ball offer uninvited when you advertise on autotrader. For instance 6k. SB 4k offered.

This time though I've not received the SBs offer..

I reckon they've bought that bike in for around £2750 & can punt it out the door with zero prep.

I've previously been told by dealers (not SBF) that the 'Admin fee' covers things like:

  • Making sure the bike has a valid MOT... I'm not sure how they think they'll sell non-MOT'd bikes.
  • Making sure it hasn't been written-off previously... Not my problem as the dealer is legally obliged to tell me if it has been.
  • Making sure it has no finance owing on it... Again not my problem as it won't affect me if buying in good faith from a dealer.
  • Paying for the preparation of the sales documents, invoicing etc... Why would I pay a fee for them to do their job?
  • Paying for a service if the bike needs one... Again, that's your issue as a dealer & I doubt you'll sell many bikes that need the owner to immediately service them.
As soon as any salesman mentions any of the above BS then I'm walking. Do Morrisons expect me to pay an admin fee for the cashier to scan my items & hand me a receipt?

Whenever I've questioned admin fees the salesman has replied Sir we don't make much on the car so we use the admin fee for prep/salesman costs.

Dealers aren't charities. To say they don't make much on a multi thousand bike or car rankled me.

Dealer mark-ups in Scotland for cars & bikes are crazy at the moment. I think it's sheer greed, particularly as their prep is so rubbish. I'm planning to run my Picanto into the ground (it's brand new so no time soon) but am honestly questioning whether I'll buy another car again as we don't need two cars. A 300-400cc scooter is really all I need.

I sold my bike to them , they have it up for £1200 more than they paid me.
I dont like their style but gave me more with no bits on it than the Dealer who sold it to me and serviced it with the bits still on.
All rubbish the things they say they will have to do and replace etc , you know full well they wont.

Inflation - new prices are going up, pushing up used values - especially on lower value bikes. My local dealer offered me a brand new CB500x for £4800 in 2020 (RRP was £5500). RRP is now £6700 and a tidy secondhand 2020 bike is probably £4500 - 5000k now.

If you bought a £18k GS in 2020, it's probably lost £4-5K of value. Just horses for courses, happens with cars as well. Buying a 15 year old luxury saloon for the same price as a similar aged Corsa etc.

They have to pay VAT, that’s £240 of that £1200 margin between buying and selling gone straight away.

As always. If the bike isn't worth it and it is cheaper elsewhere, buy it elsewhere.

I'll get my violin! smile

My take is that a brand-new Forza 350 loses about £2900 over 3 years. SBF's nearly 3 year old one (the previous 300cc model) will lose around £2850 (from £retail to £trade-in) over 3 years. Plus there's the cost of MOTs on the used one as well, & if financing then a higher % rate.

With no shortage of new stock, I don't get the attraction of used. SBF's used Forza is over-priced by £600 in my book but someone must be buying them. Sub-primers? Riders who just want wheels & can't be bothered looking at the figures?

I know it’s a small gripe but I ignore their adverts on bike trader for one simple reason….ever picture of the bike is interspersed with a photo/graphic of adverts for their services, and for some reason I find scrolling through it highly irritating. It must work for them but not for me.
