Afternoon all,

I am looking for the angle to which your knee would need to bend to fit on a 2023 BMW S1000RR with standard rear sets.

Can’t seem to find any conclusive numbers for this online, but guessing it also varies depending on your height and inside leg measurement, so looking for any first hand experience. I am 6ft with a 33in inside leg. To spare you the detail, I currently cannot bend one knee past 90 degrees.

Do I stand any hope of getting on one?

bmw dealers tend to be great for letting you out on their bikes, pop along to a dealer and got have a sit/ride on one.

I have a 2020 model. My inside leg measures 29.5 inches and I find the pegs high. The position is akin to a jockey on a racehorse. However I do not find it uncomfortable but having said that over a period of prolonged riding I can feel some pain in my knees. By prolonged riding I mean three 8 hour plus days. If you have existing knee problems it MAY be an issue. my advice would be seek out an obliging dealer explain the situation and get an extended test ride. I had a short afternoons test ride on the model I ended up buying and with all the things I was weighing up about the bike the peg positions didn't actually register with me for some reason. It was only after I'd bought mine that I thought they were high. I had come off a 2011 Fireblade and that was like a GS in comparison. Also my knees are 66 years old

Cycle ergo hasn't been updated in 8 years, not much use for modern bikes.

I've only rode a Gen 4 for 2 hours and found it perfectly acceptable for a sportsbike. I've got a 34" inside leg.

Yes, you will fit fine. You are the same size as me. I've done 5k miles on my 2020 gen4 bike in the past year. It's pretty comfortable for a sports bike. - but that's a matter of perspective. wink

As said, go to your nearest Motorrad dealer, they will be only too glad to let you try for size.

I think the BM is generallly considered to be the most “roomy” of the sportsbike , as said above , dont take other peoples word for it, BMW will let you take one out for a decent period of time.

I have had sports bikes since 1976 ..A S1000rr is most definitely not the most roomy of sports bikes... but as you say take one out and try it. Because they are absolutely fabulous

The original one was comfortable and not just in sportsbike terms.

I think they have gone racier with each new version and the current one is much less comfortable than the original.

Hmm, got to eat my words. Just got home and tried mine in the garage. While it is super comfy, the knee angle is more acute than 90 deg i'm afraid.

It's not 'scruntched up', but it's no right angle. Sorry!

As we have all agreed I think - try one.

Thanks all. Will have to swing my leg over one once I have the ability to… was thinking of getting one as motivation to get better and do the physio to get the knee moving as it should again, but may wait a little while before doing that I guess seeing as I am currently restricted to 90 degrees!

I did try looking at this website - it’s a shame it hasn’t been updated in recent years as it was a genuinely useful tool before!

BMW M do an adjustable rear set and I think you might be able to get that lower than a standard set (they are blue)

Stop that at once. I am having to wait until April 24 for my 1st yr no claims after passing my test, you are not helping!

What price do you put on being comfortable on an expensive bike?

I have read a lot about the S1000RR and people do say the M sets are the best you can get.

I think that people will also sell off the bling bits and go back to standard when selling so you may find 2nd hand.
