Bought this this weekend! Had been sharing it with a mate at work who had suitable dry & secure storage for something so nice 25 mins away, but due to that, only used it a few times in the year. But, now mine - and now it feels even more awesome than it did before biglaugh Hopefully in a couple of months I’ll go from no garage, to my dream garage, else I’d probably have reluctantly passed on the opportunity.

Some of you might remember me from being active on this forum years ago, back then I had a one off Chris Walker replica ZXR400 in 2012-2014, then a beautiful immaculate grey Daytona 675 from early 2014. I sold that last summer (for a small profit?!) after it spent several years tucked up unused having got back on the horse in 2015 after a broken neck in late 2014. While I’d got back on, I was not really enjoying it the same - but I realise now I was unwilling to admit it to myself, and I think I only rode again to prove to myself I still could. Back then sports bikes were my only transport, my primary passion and pass-time, and it almost defined me - so it was tough to lose that.

But, after selling the 675, when the opportunity came up to split the S1000 shortly after last year I had to - even though I didn’t use it I missed the 675 - and just owning a bike. I’d wanted an S1000R since release back then when I rode everyday, year round, and it hasn’t disappointed - such a superb allrounder, especially when ridden infrequently. Sports bikes are almost easier to live with when you ride them every day, less so when you don’t?! Hoping to use this for some touring, exploring, ride-outs and commutes.

I’ve really got the bug again biggrin Nice to be back on here and see it so active. Still in Oxfordshire, must meet up with some of you.

That is a nice bike. And coming to it from where you have it's extra special.

I've got the XR (because old person) and I can only imagine how enjoyable it is to point that weapon at some twisties!

Enjoy!

Still love an early S1000R despite my 2nd one having an untimely demise.

That ZXR is a peach too.

Great 'do it all' bike. Quick & typical german efficient

Went touring with someone on one of these last year and it ticked all the boxes for him

Thank you! Yes it’s nice to be back and enjoying it properly again. I think I needed the break. I haven’t ridden it that much yet, 500 miles maybe. Look forward to finding some good corners and getting my body position right again. For me that was when everything clicked on sports bikes. The XR must be superb all rounder.

They are a very popular choice!

Oh dear! What have you got now? I wanted an RR since release and then soon after an R when I realised an all rounder made more sense. If I was riding every day still it would be a no brainier. Still got a hankering for the RR - miss tucking down behind the fairings, and how focussed sports bikes are. But this should get much more use I hope. The ZXR was my first big bike, adored it. So much fun had on it.

Absolutely! So easy to ride. Cruise control on bikes is a revaluation and I love the quick shifter. Hilarious fun at high revs.

Oh it was. My absolute pride and joy when I was 21. Used it so much. IMO the prettiest supersport bike. But yes the S1000R really is. I still fancy trying a 1290R but I think I’d prefer the refinement of the BMW.

Yes, still got those 2, I get out on the Fizzy a bit during summer on the odd hot wind free days we have, looking forward to seeing you posting again.

The S1000R is a great bike. I had an early one in 2014 and loved it. My 2022 bike was even better, but has now gone in favour of the M, which is just off the scale.

I’ve got a Tuono V4 Factory now.

Like you say, there’s just something that’s very easy about the S1000R that makes jumping on it and going quick a breeze, while also being an absolute pussycat for the early morning commute.

My S1000R had been messed around with by Crowe Performance before I bent it, and it came away from there a different bike.

I had one of the first ones with quickshift up only. Key points were throttle, bks and smile. I remmber gunning it in Italy through some dip and being 3g-ed to the tank.

Your friend is the white light. This thing is fun squared.

I don'r have one any more becuase SMIMBO is no fan. My exit plan includes S1000R (fact).

I tried the S1000R recently and it felt buttery smooth compared to my Aprilia RS660, the switches etc also felt much higher quality, how does the Tuono V4 compare? I am very tempted by the R or RR.

I can imagine! I’ll have to ride one - but then I’ll probably want one.

I think I remember your name from the watch sub-forum too?

I’ve had it back out this week after weeks away working in the US riding Harleys - Fat Bobs so the sportier ones. Chalk and cheese. Actually really enjoyed them out there on their road networks… but the S1000 is just a great everyday all rounder. So pleased.

Back to occasional commuting which is nice, skipping all the traffic, getting caught out in the rain. Feeling like I’m back several years to when I didn’t have a car and rode everyday, all weathers, as did my friends. My bike is in the garden once again, for now, under the same cover, I’ve unearthed the same locks, kit, visors, pinlocks etc. Just a shame I don’t live in a student house with all my mates and a garden full of bikes now biglaugh but a nice reminder of some of the most fun years of my life.

Yes mines up only too. Hilarious fun, addictive. My older stuff, even the Daytona, was slightly too old for an easy fit quickshifter.

Good luck! Hope you get another. Sounds like a cliche, but getting back at it properly and enjoying it like I did pre-big accident has been so good, honestly feel like I’ve found myself again.

Awesome! Never done a trackday. Always hoped to get a cheap track bike and enjoy a couple of summers at it, but haven’t been able to yet. Now I’ve taken the aftermarket screen off the S1000 I am comfortable at higher speeds, so maybe I’ll bite the bullet and just do one on the S1000.

I had my s1000r for five years from new (following an s1000rr) and then got a tuono factory....have to say, they are night and day and it depends on what you want. ease of use BM everyday, more serious machine with some compromises, tuono.
