Recently my dad passed away and as a result i've inherited his indian motorcycle engine which he always intended to use in a project one day.

I'm trying to work out exactly which bike it would have come from but can't make head nor tail of the casting numbers. Is there any guru's here who can assist or point me in the right direction?

Cheers

I'm by no means an expert, but I don't think that's (entirely) Indian. For one thing, I'd expect it to be a sidevalve.

It might be an indian Scout(?) bottom end, but those overhead valve heads and barrels look like they're off a 1950s AMC (AJS/Matchless) single.

I've seen Harley WL engines fitted with AJS/Matchless top ends, but I don't recall seeing that done to an Indian.

Find an Indian forum. Real Indians, not the current version.

EDIT
After Indian went bust in 1953, Royal Enfield and, later, AMC bikes were sold as Indians. I wonder if the AMC engines had "Indian" badges riveted to the rocker covers?

EDIT2
Crankcases might be Indian Powerplus, which they stopped making in 1925, with a custom timing cover.
