A work colleague told me today that he’s done a CBT, and now he’s going to do lessons and a direct access on a 500cc scooter, and once he’s passed he can then get any sized bike as long as it’s automatic like the giant scooter is.

Is that even possible? It sounds like a bad idea to me.

No, same rules as people that pass car tests in an auto.

'You can take your A2 motorcycle test on either a manual or automatic motorbike. If you choose take your test on a manual motorcycle, you can ride either manual motorcycles or automatics, however if you take your test on an automatic, you will be limited to automatics.'

He'll get an A2 licence, which seems pointless if he's the age to get a full licence... Unless he's completely unable to cope with gears it doesn't make sense not to do the proper licence so you've got it forever.

But he can pass on a (weirdly big) scooter, then ride an automatic bike?

I just thought scooters were so different to bikes you wouldn't be able to do that.

Not really, 2 wheels and counter steer, its only auto v manual that differentiates them in reality
