Your dream motorcycle trip
Discussion
As i get older i find myself not wishing for a specific destination, but more the journey.
It could be a simple jaunt to the local seaside but on all back roads, through towns and villages i've either not been to before or not visited in a long time.
It could be a long winded drive to parts of the country far away from me but again, not using motorways or main roads.
If i never get to where i was heading but have a great journey along the way, that will do me.*
* the last great journey i undertook on a bike, i was aiming for Helmsley and ended up at Edale instead but it wasn't half a great ride, met some great Danish guys and spent half the day nattering to them about their journey before going to what is now The Rambler Inn for a lemonade, then heading home.

Whole lap of Ireland, hugging the coast all the way. On something modern with decent suspension
Just come back from doing most of that. Didn’t do the south coast due time constraints. Absolutely fantastic. Helped that the weather was amazing. I would recommend it to anyone. Great roads, amazing scenery, plus lovely people and some excellent food.
I will be back

There are loads of different places I'd like to ride but I'm not sure I'd say any were my dream trip. By that I mean one trip I want to do above all others.
I've previously been really excited to ride certain roads/routes or visit certain places, only to feel slightly disappointed. It was probably my unrealistic expectations but it wasn't what I thought it would be.
Likewise I've been on trips that were unexpectedly wonderful.
I think that means I'll let you know what my dream trip was when I've done it!

I did most of that a few years back, Roslare to Dublin, clockwise. You're right on the suspension, I was on a TDM and the guy we met up with on an R1 was struggling in a few places

I fancy doing an Iceland tour by motorbike, been a few times in rental cars, but fancy it on a bike.
I've done a few "dream trips" over the last 30 years, but still there are so many I would like to do. I plan to go part time or retire in a few years which will remove the time constraint.
Route 66 was amazing and I've driven/ridden the Pacific Coast on a number of different trips. I have worked for California based companies for 20 years, so its convenient to tag on holidays to work visits. I could spend years just riding around the Americas, but I'm going to do an east coast road trip next.
I go somewhere in Europe each year, next month its Germany\Austria\Switzerland for 10 days.
Next year planning something further afield, India maybe Himalayas on a Royal Enfield.

Someone summed it up as feeling like he'd been 'done' by the whole of the Household Cavalry...
including the horses

Had my first ride in Spain last year & it was a revalation, the road surface (apart from one OH s
t !! moment on a dusty roundabout), lack of traffic, incredible scenery. So i'm hoping next year's trip will be my dream trip...
Sandader to Porto in 5 days via the Picos, Serra da Estrala & the Duoro valley. 3 days in Porto to relax & explore. Then 5 days back to Bilbao roughly following the coast through Galicia & Asturias. We (Mrs B on pillion) shan't book anything other than the Porto stop as we can run the trip the other way round depending on what the weather is doing.
Can't flipping wait!!

My dream trip would be to pretty much do an Itchy Boots.
Sell everything I own, pack as lightly as I can and just see the rest of my days out wandering around the world on my bike.
I've pondered on these type of trips - with the bloggers when is it a trip and when does it turn into a job ?Sell everything I own, pack as lightly as I can and just see the rest of my days out wandering around the world on my bike.
After you've been travelling for a month / 3 months / 6 months / a year... doesn't every day become like the last and the fun stops ?

I should have added, I wouldn’t do any filming / blogging or instagramming, none of that holds any interest to me. It would just purely be travelling for myself. After you've been travelling for a month / 3 months / 6 months / a year... doesn't every day become like the last and the fun stops ?

Bit of Dark Tourism around the Netherlands and Germany.
Off the ferry, a night or two in Amsterdam, then Amersfoort, Kamp Vught, Westerbork, Bunker Valentin, Sandbostel, Bergen-Belsen, Swinmark, Ravensbruck, then explore Berlin for a night or two.
Don't ask me why.
Not quite the same scale, but depending which ferry you use consider adding the Oranje Hotel in Scheveningen to that list too. The war museum at Overloon's good as well. I've managed to fit Mittelbau-Dora, Dachau and Oradour-sur-Glane in to previous bike trips so it's not just you.

Just back from my second Spanish trip, 10 days loop of Spain, Sierra Nevada was a real highlight

I cannot recommend enough a Spanish trip, roads and scenery are 10 out of 10

I follow her and at the moment I'm reading "Home By Seven" by Steph Jeavons who took a very similar route.Sell everything I own, pack as lightly as I can and just see the rest of my days out wandering around the world on my bike.
I enjoy Itchy, her vids and editing are superb. Steph is more a biker chick and I'm finding her book a bit more sex 'n drugs 'n rock 'n roll.
Highly recommended.

I've just done the same, but in my BBR turbo. 2500 miles acroos the north Picos to Santiago then Portugal down to the south. Sierra Nevada to Guadix circuit and some laps there. I cannot recommend enough a Spanish trip, roads and scenery are 10 out of 10

Wonderful roads, it was great in my BBR but a bike would be magnificent.
