How do I send a Google Maps route to my mobile?
Discussion
Hi folks,
I'm going on a trip to Wales with some friends in a couple of weeks. I've plotted the route on Google Maps and now need to send it to my phone to act as navigation.

The problem I have is that when I press the "send directions to your phone" link, it doesn't incorporate all of the stops and sends us directly from Point A to B with the fastest route.
We're taking a completely illogical and lengthy route so I can understand why Google would try to get us there quickly, but is there a way to upload this route onto my phone so it takes us the way we want to go?
Thanks, Tom

You can send the route to your email and then open the link on your mobile and it will have the waypoints.
Well it does on my pixel for the route I planned recently.
Having said that I find it better and more reliable to send individual waypoints/segments to my phone, then set the start point to "your location" and make it an icon on the home screen (or a group/page) in the order of travel so they can be easily started from wherever you are on the route whenever you stop etc.
ETA you may need to set the first point of your route to "your location" once loaded from the email to be able to start navigation rather than just preview the route.

There might be a difference in experience due to how people are creating routes
If say you want to go from London to Scotland via Birmingham Leeds Manchester as waypoints then that will carry across to your mobile
If however you simply drag the route on your desktop and then move it to your mobile it reverts back to the fastest route

Is there an alternative that is any better?
I think I've plotted our route using Google MyMaps now but it was a ball ache.
There must be another app or service where you can plot a specific route. Failing that I'll do it the old fashioned way and print off directions and put them in a tank bank with a clear cover.

Follow up question for those who do use Google Maps (though I'll try the options mentioned here now) - if you do set waypoints, is there a way to get the directions to continue to the next one wihtout having to hit "Continue" on the screen? Always try and ask it to continue on my headset but never works.
