On a run out to Mallaig on Saturday I thought I’d taken a wrong turn some where along the way and ended up on the Isle of Man. Never seen so many maniacs in groups riding like total bell ends. Double solid white lines , oncoming traffic and blind corners apparently count for nothing in their quest for an overtake. It’s no wonder that bikers get a bad reputation FFS .
We all love a spirited ride to get the adrenaline going a bit but what I witnessed on Saturday was nothing other than total madness I’m afraid. The end result will be the minority totally fking it up for the rest of us.

Always going to get them especially when the weather is nice. I live not far from a road that goes from the A1M to the A421 and in between there is a series of roundabouts that if empty, can be great fun but obviously during the weekend, they are busy. Yet as soon as the sun is out, i would need an abacus to count the amount of muppets out to get their knee down round these roundabouts and i'm amazed nobody has been killed yet.

I get it, i've ridden/driven spiritedly in the past but with the amount of traffic on the roads now and the driving standards dropping big time, if i wanted to get my knee down that badly*, i'd go do a track day somewhere.

* in reality arthritis mean's i'd be able to do it easily when i fall over hehe

Thank you for raising these concerns in BB, the like of which we have definitely never heard before.

As chairman of the BB standards committee I will be calling a meeting this morning. Without preempting the outcome I can assure you we will speak personally with all of the riders concerned and make sure they at least wheelie past you next time. We are extremely disappointed that no mono wheel action was noted in your report.

It's dheads like this that are the reason we end up with drones tracking us when riding.

In the interests of impartial 'investigation' I've just Googled 'drone tracking motorbikes' and got 1 hit in Walsall of off road nuisance bikers a year ago. Nothing else.

Do you have any further information on this fragrant disregard for our privacy?

Please, don't forget to see that section 5.1.3 is being actively enforced:

"All riders will be entrusted to declare their riding footware apparel and the breakfast of the morning on which the day they ride when talking about a ride-out. Such information is vitally important but the importance of which is not disseminated amongst those of lower ranks."

There's a time and place for everything isn't there?

I was out at the weekend, near 300 miles and never a double white line crossed, was I hanging around, was I above the speed limit, was I sticking to the limits in towns/villages?

It doesn't take much to adjust your riding and not be labelled as a nutter etc, but you can still go ballistically fast without causing a nuisance.

Maybe people wouldn't overtake on the double whites if they were in sensible places

I covered a couple of hundred miles on Sunday and half the time the double whites were the safest places to overtake

Perhaps not for a car but a 1000cc bike means there are very few places that it is actually dangerous to overtake

Conversely I saw markings indicating it was safe to overtake and I wouldn't have overtaken a milk float there

Frankly the road markings these days are at best - random

There was a big run out on Saturday to Mallaig by a Glasgow based Facebook motorcycle group. Big runs always encourage show off mentality and lowers standards accordingly.

Also, motoring in the Highlands has issues that cause frustration and bad overtaking. Coming back from Loch Fyne in my Impreza on Tuesday, I had the option of making an overtake on a campervan on the hill up to the Rest and Be Thankful. As coming back in would have made the campervan brake, I declined.

We then got stuck in behind a couple of very slow hatchbacks, and none of the fkers topped 40 all the way to Balloch, whilst ignoring several laybys and passing places. My Impreza is fast but a four car overtake requires a very long and clear straight. As such, you can see how frustrations rise and if the police concentrated on driving standards rather than speeding there would be fewer unfit and inconsiderate drivers on the roads.

Totally agree.
If it was the group in question it’s only a matter of time before they are a few members short. A right hand totally blind bend overtake on 2 vehicles one of which was a large caravan and 4x4 just beggared belief.
The would be comedians on here will continue to defend anything motorcycles though of course.

It's a large part of the reason the area around Loomies now has cameras. I've been there a lot but make a point to not push it in built up areas. It's the same every summer. The fair weather fairies come out of hibernation and ride like utter James Hunts absolutely everywhere. The "Slow Boys" wearing hoddie scum are the worst in my experience.

Was it early afternoon by any chance??

I was up there on my own, and a group of a dozen or so idiots came flying by me off the roundabout next to the police station all trying to pull wheelies etc... way above the speed limit...

Acting like complete and utter bellends.

There are some bad bike riders - they tend to only kill themselves so not much of an issue IMO

Here are two photos near me - on the same stretch of road within 1/2 a mile

You can't overtake on the straight bit with one house on a slightly hidden dip (it's even clearer going in the other direction)

You can overtake on the bend, with the hidden junction and the hump back bridge a few metres away

Yip, we encountered similar bellends on our ride up & back to The Welly……flying past with dangerous overtakes on the straights, then on a few occasions late overtakes into corners & nearly causing an accident by crawling around the corners!! The type on their “blade’s n gixxer’s innit” in 1 piece racesuits and 3inch chicken strips smile
Like previously mentioned in this thread, theres a time and a place

Mallaig run was always better late on a Wednesday or Sunday afternoon from anywhere in Scotland. Even better if it's raining, too many moving chicanes on a sunny Saturday.
