Steel to steel, the link pipe is probably 0.5mm off slipping in snuggly to connect to a spare parts aftermarket exhaust from the shed of parts. .. At the moment it spins round on the rim. If I shave it down around will it work?

Worth a try…or even better, get a machine shop to swage it.

I once bodged a Micron end can into a link pipe by cutting two slots in the link pipe with a dremel. Used a small lever bar to open up the link pipe and some exhaust assembly paste and forced the end can in. I put an exhaust clamp on and once tightened up it sealed perfectly, when I sold it six months later it was still on and I told the guy buying it what I had done and he was happy with it.

If you can find a short length of pipe of the correct diameter to fit over both, cut a couple of slots and large clips around it, might be a good solution. Better yet weld it on to one side, slip into the other.

I think you'll find it difficult to remove even 0.5mm evenly enough to be a good fit.
