Hi All,

Thought I'd just get some opinions albeit I think I already know the answer!

This is what one of my fork legs looks like, note build up at the bottom of the stroke up towards the seal isn't exactly dry.. it has been cleaned up a few times now but after a ride or two the build up at the bottom is back again.

It's booked in with MCT at the beginning of April for servicing front and back, so will get sorted then, but guessing I shouldn't ride it in the interim now?

My 916 has similar on one side, I only noticed a couple of days before the MOT so didn't have time to sort it. Luckily the tester said it wasn't bad enough to fail and there's only a very light misting of oil so it's on my to-do list as it's not going to get any better.

Depending how bad it is, you could be fine to ride it but obviously, if it's leaking badly it could get on your disc/caliper which wouldn't be good.

You could try a seal-mate https://sealmate.net/ which can help if it's just some grit etc. stuck in the seal. I used it on mine and it seems to have improved it slightly, quite a bit of grit/muck came out but ultimately it's still leaking - probably more likely to be successful on dirt bikes?

Thanks Catso, mines just had an MOT also, I did clean it up the day before but it obviously wasn't bad enough for him to mention, but I've been using it everyday since and it isn't getting better..

I guess my main worry is it could fail completely whilst riding or end up on the disc etc without me knowing.

I will look into that tool, as my bike is 2011 I'm assuming it's more likely age related than debri in the seal but it's worth a go as I'm going to miss a month of summer riding otherwise!

I'd happily ride that - just keep an eye on it

I only wouldn't ride if it was pissing out and likely to get on the brakes / tyre

I admit I have seen some go from a slight leak to a big leak quite quickly others leak slightly for ages

You can make your own seal mate from a plastic bottle - you've got nothing to lose giving it a try
