I escaped from an unbelievably dull but necessary local government meeting at 9pm. All the other participants got into their SUVs, but I enjoyed a much better wind-down as I rode my R1100S across nighttime LA. It wasn't quite the opening to Blade Runner, but it was close.

I don't do it so much these days as I tend to WFH on days where I work late, but in the olden days if I had to pull a late one in the office then I always loved riding home through south London late at night. Especially in summer - the glorious smells from the numerous restaurants, the hubbub on the streets, the way the traffic flows so much more freely - and then you break free of the city onto empty dual carriageways and country roads to cruise at whatever speed you feel comfortable, because no-one else really cares.

It's wonderful isn't it? Summer evening, no traffic. Brings back memories of working during lockdown in London. I was managing a construction job for my company that was happening over night, I'd frequently start late and get out about 11pm, not a soul around for the 1 hour commute home
