Looking for ideas on what this might be.

Twice in the last 3 months I've opened the throttle on a BMW F800 GT and nothing has happened. I mean nothing.... bike did not speed up but it did not slow down either. Just continued on at constant speed. No rise in revs, so I don't think it is a slipping clutch. It's happened once in 5th or 6th at 70mph on the motorway and once in 3rd at about 2500rpm.

It is the variant with the electronic throttle.

The bike gets parked for 6 weeks at a time when I go overseas. Not impossible it isn't something stupid, like water got in the fuel tank on one of the 6-week hiatus.

I know this is a boring bike.... no need to suggest I fix the problem by replacing it with an R1....

You have kind of answered the question yourself....

Likely to be an intermittent fault with the throttle assembly or TPS.

I've had this occasionally on my VFR1200F.

Open the throttle and nothing happens. The only way it seems to reset itself is to quickly pull in the clutch and then rev it hard a few times. It then seems to be OK.

The only correlation I can think of is using Sainsburys fuel when it happened - albeit I can't remember if it was every time.

It also has electronic throttle.

^^^ This - easiest option is to scan it to see if it's holding any codes - probably £30 at a bike shop (ask first, some charge a fortune)
