Re-useable silicone Christmas tree thingies.

I've got a pair of custom made plugs and the above work just as well for me personally, always able to get a good seal and noise is much reduced while still being able to hear cars, sirens etc.

I think you just need to buy a few pairs and test. What works for one person might not work for another. The only ones which give me a decent seal and really cut down noise are the E.A.R FX ones - the ordinary foam ones don't do much for me at all. But others might say opposite.

Only other option is the custom ones but they are £££ and I don't know whether they are better or not?

Having had Caterham's for the last 9 years (I run mine full aero with a loud side-exit exhaust by my RH ear), I've tried all sorts.

The throw-away 3M ones, which are okay for a one-off, right the way up to custom moulded plugs which I use in my Caterham now (full aero and no helmet).

However the custom moulds have too much attenuation for biking IMO. Therefore on my bike, I use ACS Pacato 19s. They're very comfortable, give reasonable attenuation while still preserving sound, and sit within the ear cavity therefore don't get knocked out when pulling the helmet on and off.

I've used the pinlock ones for years, until I recently lost one. Now using these : https://bollsen-hearingprotection.com/shop/moto-pl...

Perfect level of noise reduction. Case is slightly too small so getting plugs out is a pain. Not the easiest to insert in your ears.

Try the variety pack first I reckon (it's what I did following advice on here from ages ago)!

These are the comfiest for me also. I buy them in builk (250 pairs at a time) and keep a big tub of them in the garage. I also stuff every biking bag, jacket and jeans with at least a few pairs so I always have plenty

I have tried most types and now use E.A.R Earsoft FX plugs.

Recommended by a pilot friend, they are comfy and almost stick to the ear. Excellent sound attenuation too.

At least you found it funny !!

To the OP, as suggested here, grab a bag of the mixed ones and try some until you find one that works, failing that, get some custom ones made, not everyone feels the need as they find disposables that work for them.

Thanks for the responses. I forgot to mention the foam type seem to fall out of my ears annoyingly. Is there a go to moulded sort?

Same - try the variety pack and order a big box of your favourites.

I'm still going through the first 200 pairs of them 3 years later, and they were sub-£20 delivered.

different people like differnt plugs. Try a few and find what works for you. Just make sure you fit them properly.

I struggled to find ones that work and are comfortable. In the end I bought some designed for musicians, you can change the level of attenuation and also the tip size, so you can get a personal fit.

They work really well, killing the road and wind noise and I can still hear the music from the helmet speakers

At the risk of sounding patronising are you sure you are putting them in correctly?

I find the biggest drawback with foam plugs is the occasional faff of them not going in my ears properly.

Always these. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/123037245194

Bought a box of 200 about 15 years ago and still haven’t run out.

Then definitely try the E.A.R Earsoft FX plugs. They have a coating that actually seems to stick in place when new.

Also, most people don't wear foam plugs correctly, but think they do. They should be fully behind the little flap on your lug hole.
